Work on Phase 1 of Charlotte Street redevelopment in downtown Sydney that began in summer 2022 stretched into the Christmas shopping season. Phase 2 will begin in the spring. CAPE BRETON POST PHOTO - CAPE BRETON POST STAFFThe recent upgrades to Charlotte Street in Sydney are a welcome improvement to the Cape Breton Regional Municipality . The Sydney waterfront is the envy of many Maritime urban centers and improving the infrastructure of our downtown is long overdue.

Sydney deserves much better planning than this. Let us not forget that many major urban downtown cores in Atlantic Canada and elsewhere have their electrical grids underground. Even Louisbourg is without poles. CBRM wisely buried their cables on the main street years ago. CBRM Mayor Amanda MacDougall is quoted as saying: “Let me tell you; Charlotte Street is beautiful.” I agree that much of the beauty has been unveiled. However, it is truly disappointing that a mere four blocks of poles still obstruct the upscale urban image we are trying to create.

LETTER: Don’t waste medals on politicians | SaltWireWhen did we start giving out medals to politicians? Especially politicians who failed their constituents miserably. Politicians who were clearly into it ... Judges, lawyers and cops are proof that there is no rule of law in Canada. They do things that would put normal people in jail or have consequences.
