Kobe Bryant one of eight finalists announced Friday as candidates for enshrinement into the Basketball Hall of Fame later this year.

CHICAGO — The list of finalists for the Basketball Hall of Fame is considerably shorter than usual.Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett — 48 All-Star nods between them — headlined the class of eight finalists announced Friday by the Hall of Fame. Each will still need to collect 18 votes from a 24-person panel before officially becoming Hall of Famers, which is certainly no more than a formality at this point.

Bryant, Duncan, Garnett and 10-time WNBA All-Star and four-time Olympic gold medallist Tamika Catchings are all first-time finalists. The other finalists have all been to this point previously: Baylor women’s coach Kim Mulkey, former Houston Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich, five-time Division II women’s coach of the year Barbara Stevens of Bentley, and four-time national men’s college coach of the year Eddie Sutton.

Bryant was an 18-time All-Star and five-time NBA champion during a 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers, a two-time Olympic gold medallist and is the No. 4 scorer in league history. He died with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others as the group was on its way to a basketball tournament last month.

"It’s going to be incredibly sad," Breen said. "We did a game, the first Laker game on ESPN after his passing and it was the saddest thing I’ve ever been a part of from a professional standpoint and I hope I never have to be a part of anything like that again. He was so full of life and it seemed like he was never happier or more at ease.

OK can we please move on

Something is very wrong if Kobe isn't a 100% unanimous approval

LOL, your AC changed Unanimous Lock for 'finalist..... as candidates', I would not want to be a person that does not vote for him

Tiger Woods hits supernatural 'Kobe Bryant' puttClose to where basketball great Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash last month, Tiger Woods fizzed his second shot into the green to leave an eagle putt of 24 feet eight inches -- remarkably, the two jersey numbers worn by Bryant during his glittering 20-year career with the LA Lakers. So, it crashed and burned? I love Tiger Woods if only I could play golf like him but it's supposed to be relaxing and maybe I should take it up🤗 This might be a bit of a stretch... was there any alien 👽 babies or three headed caves involved. You folks are practically the national enquirer. Except there political columns are more accurate
