Mayor John Tory has unveiled plans for almost $2 billion in gross spending to combat the city’s housing crisis, as part of the 2023 budget.
The “significant investments” include almost $300 million for the city’s subsidy to the Toronto Community Housing Corporation, and $10.8 million more to deal with the impacts of the pandemic; $7.08 million for a program to prevent eviction; and almost $19 million for an initiative that supports non-profits to purchase and operate rental housing, “to help preserve the city’s rental housing stock.”
The mayor also announced funding for “frontline nuts and bolts services” such as outdoor pools, snow removal services, ice skating rinks and youth centres.
I wonder where that money will actually go. I'm on the ground floor and everytime they announce something like this I don't see it helping the right people that actually need help.
In a huge sea of empty vessels, called politics, Tory is by far the biggest empty vessel of them all.
Again, where is he getting all this money? It was previously announced city has a billion $ deficit.
He's gonna buy everybody a tent to set up at Queen's Park.
