Some of the solutions were in train before the pandemic hit – attracting immigrants with specialized skill sets; retaining international students and increasing the labour force participation of women.
But for all Freeland’s talk that the government has a plan – “We have a compass. We know how to get to a safe harbour and what to do when we get there” – there was very little on Canada’s approach to the digital economy. It is a subject on which the Trudeau government has, as is its wont, talked a good game but made little progress.
The CCI and the new Business Council report both recommend that the government tilt the playing field toward fledgling tech companies by favouring home-grown firms in its procurement policies. “Government cannot avoid decisions about which market outcomes they prefer…Full market neutrality is not possible,” it concluded.
To this point, the government has been silent on the world beyond the pandemic, apart from an over-reliance on low interest rates as justification to keep spending.
You need to reset your compass when it comes to Tory fiscal strategy. All you have to do is look at Alberta to see how poorly Tory fiscal strategy works!
Let me be clear Mr. Speaker....Freeland knows about as much about finances as I know about quantum physics. Hearing her speak with so much authority on something she knows nothing about is laughable. I guess that’s what happens with a drama teacher for a PM though.
Look at that face, she's horribly uneducated to do her job which is why Trudeau elected her in the first place 😂
Oh she is planning a reset alright. Just not the one you’re thinking.... She will help destroy what is left of this country. cdnpoli
That picture really nails is. 'Idk, Skippy said spend spend spend'
Canada needs to reset our compass and get rid of these incompetent, corrupt Liberals... all of them.
IvisonJ No time like the present for a bold practical recovery plan, and a practical, in stages, move towards a sustainable ecologically sound economy. The vision & plan?
This woman knows absolutely nothing about finance. To expect her to say something intelligent is just plain naive. Journalists don’t know finance and economists don’t know journalism. She was not put in this position because of her smarts. She simply knows how to say YES sir!
Ivison is neither smart enough nor knowledgeable enough to be advising Finance Minister Freeland on fiscal policy.
This liberal cabinet does little to provide Canadians with confidence.... our country is F***ed
There is no “Liberal fiscal strategy”
She’s a journalist not an economist.
What is their strategy...basically spend now and worry about it later? The most troubling part is how out of sync we are with the rest of G20 Nations. Spend $ for sure but need to spend wisely.
Yeah! North magnetic pole just got closer to south.
Forgot all about Freeland. Where’s she been? I guess the Liberals are keeping her from getting tainted with Trudeau scandals.
It seems F. in photos looks like the principle female character in “The Addams family.” Congratulations! Thank you for reading and sharing.
Not saying she looks like a witch but yikes!!!!
Adjust her compass to some other direction other than down?
She looks like she smells bad.
Freeland needs to reset her compass when it comes to her Nazi family members she is proud off
The seasonal viruses have borrowed a lot of money this year. Imagine the churchy 'austerity' it will take to pay it all back.
Let's face it. Govts neglected the elderly for years. COVID only brought it to the surface. Instead of taking the blame, they spread fear, saying we will all die if we don’t isolate, distance & mask. Give support to nursing homes & open up. People are dying & not from COVID.
This is like telling Edward John Smith that he should have reset his compass.
Canada is broke. This cannot be fixed - hence the continuation of the CV agenda as an economic reset tool. This is no longer about a virus.
