John Felderhof, geologist who played central role in Bre-X scandal, dead at 79

John Felderhof, the Bre-X geologist who played a central role in one of the biggest stock market scandals in Canadian history, has died. He was 79 years old.

Felderhof, the vice-chairman and chief geologist at Bre-X, had sold more than $80-million worth of his company’s stock in 1996, not long before the fraud was exposed and wiped out hundreds of millions of dollars in shareholder value. Felderhof never regained his career or reputation as a geologist after his acquittal, according to his Toronto lawyer Joe Groia, who successfully defended him against the charges levelled by the Ontario Securities Commission.

Planned event reignites debate about libraries' role as forum for free speechAn event featuring a self-described feminist speaker known for saying transgender rights endanger women has reignited an old debate about the role of public libraries as forums for free speech. Free speech? Everyone knows you're not supposed to talk at the library! The radicalized, far-left fascists, who oppose Freedom of Expression, are up to their old tricks again. “But saying it in the Toronto Public Library, in a community institution which has a responsibility to inclusion & diversity & to promoting the best in Canadian society? That, to me, is where I draw the line.' Diversity of thought not included apparently

Event featuring Meghan Murphy debate about libraries’ role as forum for free speechMurphy has written that ‘allowing men to identify as women’ endangers women and undermines women’s rights, and has said that gender identity isn’t real it's a test of where the line truly falls with free speech vs hate speech. it's controversial because the speaker has zero knowledge about trans issues. she is free to speak in a public place I'm old enough to remember when free speech was a tool we used to speak truth to power and to criticize our governments and not just some shield that ignorant junior fascists hide behind to justify their desire to marginalize other human beings. cdnpoli ableg
