James Neal enjoys red-hot start in Edmonton after languishing with Flames Globe_Sports

James Neal and Connor McDavid talk during the third period of a game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 12, 2019.James Neal didn’t feel like himself last season and knew he had to do something about it.

“I wanted to skate like I know I could skate. I wanted to be able to shoot the puck like I know I could shoot the puck. Just all the things that I felt like I lost throughout the year in Calgary that I wanted to get back.”After putting up only seven goals and 12 assists in 63 games with the Flames – far off his run of 20-plus goals in 10 straight NHL seasons – Neal has already surpassed that lowly goal output.

“I knew I had a fresh start so the relief was there that I had a fresh start so all I had to do was do my side and put my work in and I’d have a good chance of having success here in Edmonton and it’s worked out good.” “I think you don’t understand what goes into going to the finals and how bad your body’s beat up and what you’re left with.”
