New York Islanders legend and Hockey Hall of Fame member Clark Gillies has passed away. He was 67:

"The entire Islanders community is devastated by the loss of Clark Gillies," Islanders President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello said in a statement."He epitomized what it means to be a New York Islander. The pride he felt wearing the Islanders sweater on the ice was evident by his willingness to do anything to win. Off the ice, he was just as big of a presence, always taking the time to give back to the local community.

A native of Moose Jaw, Sask., Gillies spent 12 seasons of his 14-year career with the Islanders from 1974 to 1986 after the organization selected him fourth overall in the 1974 NHL Entry Draft. He spent his final two seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. With the Islanders, Gillies played a total of 872 games, scoring 304 goals and 359 assists for 663 points. He also played in 159 playoff games, scoring 47 goals and 46 assists for 93 points, helping the Isles win four straight Stanley Cups from 1980-83.

He was a legend 💯

RIP

Oh no. He was/is my only sporting hero. This is terrible

Rip

Amazing guy

How’s he die?

So far 2022 sucks

Was a preteen during the dynasty years. 19 was my guy but Jethro was an everything player. As an adult had many a conversation with him on the LIRR or in the parking lot of the Coli. Always generous with his time for fans. Utterly gutted by this news. 9-19-22 forever RIPJethro

He was, by far, the one piece, that got the Power house Islanders, over the hump to achieve the 4 straight cup wins. They were dominant in the 70’s, but couldn’t get past the 1rst round…sound familiar fellow Leaf fans? Way too young. RIP

He was, for me, the first power forward. Met him a few times and he was just a grand person. As a Long Island kid, this is heartbreaking. A piece of my childhood is gone and knowing Bossy is fighting his battle that triogrande line is now a little bit more gone is heartbreaking

Very sad news

Wow, RIP, far too young

R.I.P. Clark Gillies. He was a great player who also earned great respect on and off the ice .
