The guidelines provide additional pressure for universities to reopen even amid growing concerns about the recent spread of COVID-19 among young adults

This translation has been automatically generated and has not been verified for accuracy.International students will be forced to leave the U.S. or transfer to another college if their schools offer classes entirely online this fall, under new guidelines issued Monday by federal immigration authorities.

Under the updated rules, international students must take at least some of their classes in person. New visas will not be issued to students at schools or programs that are entirely online. And even at colleges offering a mix of in-person and online courses this fall, international students will be barred from taking all their classes online.

Of particular concern is a stipulation saying students won’t be exempt from the rules even if an outbreak forces their schools online during the fall term. It’s unclear what would happen if a student ended up in that scenario but faced travel restrictions from their home country, said Terry Hartle, the council’s senior vice-president.

Colleges across the U.S. were already expecting sharp decreases in international enrolment this fall, but losing all international students could be disastrous for some. Many depend on tuition revenue from international students, who typically pay higher tuition rates. Last year, universities in the U.S. attracted nearly 1.1 million students from abroad.

Dozens of colleges have said they plan to offer at least some classes in person this fall, but some say it’s too risky. The University of Southern California last week reversed course on a plan to bring students to campus, saying classes will be hosted primarily or exclusively online. Harvard on Monday said it will invite first-year students to live on campus, but classes will stay online.

ICE never wants to see any of these people again. Too bad that their taxes from the $$$ they spend in the US could cover their entire budget.

Trudeau should do the same

Funny how everything is safe unless you're an American.

Major Ontario school boards eye partial back-to-school plan worrying working parentsThe Toronto District School Board says models under discussion for September include options that would see students allowed into class during staggered days or even weeks. The government has had months to do this. Build, find, borrow or steal every available portable. Hire teachers on 1 year terms, keep class sizes to a maximum of 15. Every kid goes back, every kid goes back safely. Get it done! Staggered days and weeks .... what about child care on ‘staggered days and weeks’. In grade 1 we went to school in shifts.

Ontario to ban suspensions for children in Grade 3 and below in efforts to rid education system of racismA 2017 study reported Black students were more than twice as likely as other racialized and white students to be suspended at least once before graduating from high school Wait what? PrisonPlanet, I've got a feeling this won't end racism... They need to ban suspension across the board. Have the kids shadow a teacher and do some administrative work instead of sitting at home playing Xbox . I think positive reinforcement could help. Ok, so a kid can stab another kid and stay in school?

Ford Gov’t To End ‘Broken’ Academic Streaming In High SchoolsFord said about 50% of Ontario’s Black students wind up in the applied stream, a number much lower than the rest of the student population It's nice to see our education system getting away from the liberals train wreck system But if they don’t provide more help for kids falling behind in elementary school, and ensure that they are functioning at or near grade level by the time students reach grade 9 nothing will be fixed! Intervention must happen EARLY! I'm not really trusting that he is caring all of a sudden? Then the solutions need to start in need to put your money up front; invest in the beginning; all studies on everything education say earlier the better
