IMF says implementing a carbon tax of US$75 per ton would have the greatest impact in reducing emissions

WASHINGTON — Countries around the world should urgently begin accelerating efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and the best way to do that is through implementation of carbon taxes and global cooperation, the International Monetary Fund said on Thursday.

UN climate scientists warned last month that if greenhouse gas emissions are not slashed the world must face a reality of cities vanishing under rising seas, rivers running dry and marine life collapsing. “Implementation of existing commitments is therefore a first-step priority, but mechanisms to boost action at a global level are urgently needed,” the report said.

The cost of electricity and gasoline would also rise considerably and by varying degrees in countries. Gasoline prices would rise 5 per cent to 15 per cent in most countries, the IMF said, “well within the bounds of price fluctuations experienced during the past few decades.” HELPING THOSE IN NEEDThe need to tackle climate change has become pressing, particularly among the G20 countries, as the potential impact on economic growth and financial stability has become more apparent.

To that end, governments must give people and businesses incentives to reduce emissions without derailing economic growth, the IMF report noted, as it cited the contrasting examples of France and Sweden.

Sounds like the IMF is going broke Trudeau is corrupt

This is a complete joke. Get China to stop using and building coal fired electricity plants first and then we can discuss our next steps. A tax is not a solution.

RealMahoneyNL how dare you

IMF, UN, IPCC....all deviants

Government tax scam on a global scale. Fuck NO.

Great, look forward to China, India, KSA, etc taking up the suggestion.... that's where nearly all the problem is!

Coincidentally related to UN ‘running out of operations cash to pay staff’! Poor operations management, poor ‘eco-experts’, unreliable/unacceptable donations, and IMF becomes boombox messenger! Not helping its credibility, sorry folks carbon taxes does f-all for environment.

Tell them 'Thanks for nothing'... ClimateHoax is real...& they wanna end your FREEDOM cdnpoli uspoli MAGA2020

And there you have it.

And then there’s this coming Saturday:

Must be just like the UN ... out of money.

Oh my goodness, look at all those carbon dioxides

Of course tax the poor and make the rich richer - idiots

Lol!

And we must unilaterally disarm and surrender to the Soviets.

Not without a comprehensive transition plan.

Again, what a bunch of hooey!!

The truth is there! All you have to do is look!

The real, un-manipulated, historical raw climate data, *so far* still exists, & a little bit of curiosity, logic & common sense will prove it! JUST because Mckenna & Trudeau’s liberals say it louder & louder, over & over, repeatedly doesn't, & won't make it so! 2/2

'Global warming crisis' claims are a ClimateFraud, a scam, nothing more than a deceitful scheme to steal wealth & power from the people, & anyone with a functioning brain & a few minutes doing just a little honest research can figure that fact out! (see Tony Heller & others) 1/2

Unimaginative IMF.

I’d be interested in any article in which the IMF argued for lower taxes. I’m not saying they haven’t but I can’t seem to find one.

far more important financial needs coming up ..... this is fake, this is a lie and what is urgent Is getting ride of you___+

The ctax just makes everything more expensive. Hurting lower income earners and enabling the richer to carry on with their life. (Trudeau paying carbon off sets). Most Canadians have no choice but to use fossil fuels for home heating and driving! Give us options first!

Of course. Only a tax can fix an imaginary problem.

Technology and Innovation is the solution. Not carbon taxes as governments don't solve problems. They just spend money inefficiently.

Globalist trying to steal our money again

Well, that is hardly surprising. The International MONETARY Fund thinks the best tack to reduce global warming is carbon taxes? Carbon taxes as in MONEY? Greenbacks? E Pluribus Unums? Moolah? Sheckles? Big bucks? Of course it would. It's the IMF's nutrient. GMAFB!

Translation .. the globalists want you to work even harder for the bankers. The truth

Follow me, I follow back sweetheart.

marisolfhaz So you realize your publication has attacked carbon pricing non stop for years right?

'Carbon taxes the best way to do it' as BC's carbon emissions increase in Lew of a carbon tax.

how about getting rid of chinas 220 coal plants

Now it's 'global warming' again? How the alarmists craft their narrative:

Who’s the IMF and who cates what they think!!!! A tax can’t fix anything. And allthe climate alarmism is irrational and irresponsible.

ya how were they on 'making negative interest rates work'
