A breathing technique video touted as potentially “lifesaving” for patients suffering from COVID-19 has been getting wide attention on social media. Health experts say the techniques are based on long-established practices for respiratory distress, but cautioned that it is not a miracle cure.

, and in the most severe cases, patients need to be intubated and put on a ventilator.

“There are several techniques for allowing chest expansion to avoid collapsing of lower lung segments for patients who are bed bound in some way or suffering from a pulmonary infection. This would be one of them,” said Dr. Abdu Sharkawy, an assistant professor of medicine with the University Health Network in Toronto via email.

The deep breathing exercises in the video are typically used to help mitigate something called atelectasis, said McCoy, the medical term for collapse of lung tissue. The combination of fluid in the lungs and taking small breaths can make people vulnerable to the condition.

It's not a cure. It's not even a treatment. Anybody who takes medical advice from anyone who is not a trained, accredited medical professional deserves whatever happens to them.... Who'd take medical advice from a lousy author?

Makes sense. Covid 19 interrupts breathing functions. Proper breathing techniques and strengthening the organ would help prepare the body for the virus. It can't hurt, you have everything to gain, and nothing to lose.

She needs to be less horny for Archie news stand comics.

This technique could make patients more comfortable during COVID recovery at home. NOTE via Dr. McCoy: 'Some people with COVID deteriorate very quickly, I'd hate to see people trying to self-manage at home when they should be seeking medical attention'
