Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has declined to hold a vote on the bill, which was approved by the Democratic-controlled House in February

. He says it’s not clear the Senate would be able to pass the legislation or that Trump would sign it into law.

Trump and White House aides have discussed a number of gun-control measures with members of Congress, including steps to go after fraudulent buyers, notify state and local law enforcement when a potential buyer fails a background check, issue state-level emergency risk protection orders, boost mental health assistance and speed up executions for those found guilty of committing mass shootings.

After a summer of devastating mass shootings, Congress has struggled to reach agreement on legislation to curb gun violence as Trump pledged to protect the Second Amendment and wavered on what kind of bill he wants the lawmakers to send for his signature.

Gun control: You can look at the history. The fact is the reality - two sides of coin.

I don't think background checks would make any difference because the people who really sell the guns don't care who's buying the gun but if they have the money. If you look at all the gun violence who can really tell who's going to kill but the issue is assault weapons and why

In what world do you believe RepubliCONs (unequivocally tied to the NRA) would conside, let alone pass, anything close to gun control laws. Same can be said of some spineless Democrats as well. 2ndAmendmentStupidity

Guess the guy in the WH doesn't even like the idea because IF someone had really done a thorough background check of him, there would be so much to make him not even qualify to cut grass at a golf course. Not that he would've: bone spurs, so troublesome & convenient.

Trump has already backed off this one! NEXT!

If you oppose background checks, is it because you know you'll fail one?
