The Ontario goverment is looking into reports that the new licence plate is difficult to read under "certain light conditions". TORONTO -- The Ontario government has confirmed to CTV News Toronto that they are looking into reports that the province’s new licence plates are difficult to read at night.
The confirmation follows a number of posts to social media that show photos of what appears to be the new licence plates on vehicles at night, with plate details almost impossible to read.

Haven't seen the at night problem. They do look remarkably fake though. I guess I didn't know our license plates were such a pressing issue that they would get 'fixed' instead of other important matters.
How can this happen. Wouldn't that be checked before mass production takes place? Someone dropped the ball and rates sure to increase if they need replacing. Maybe that is the purpose, good excuse to raise rates.
If it is true the Tory gov't relied on the corporation to test their plates, that is Conflict of interest. The corporation does not speak for the people (profits are always first) - - that is the job of government. DougFord, do your job!

Drove behind a car with the new plate last Wed night and we commented how ridiculous it was because you can not read it. I said to my husband I hope they don’t have to send out an Amber Alert because you won’t be able to see it at night

I would be interested to know if this design was tested by the Ministry of Transportation. When I worked there long ago, they tested road signs and paint samples to ensure that they were visible under all lighting conditions. I can't imagine them not testing license plates.

I’d love to know the genius at the SAAQ who designed the green plates for electric vehicles. They’re completely indistinguishable when dirty & I’ve heard of people getting pulled over by SQ in HOV lane because even they can’t tell.
Can governments just stop trying to change things that aren’t broken. Is that to much to ask. At the very least could you please consult with the people that need to read them the most. ie The police officers.
I'm not sure it's the color of the paint but the type of paint. Something like this this happened in NL years ago (last time plates were changed) But they caught it on time. Someone took the sample plate out in the dark & shined a light on it. B4 public use
