The latest on the coronavirus: Toll at central Ontario nursing home hits 14; Calgary police investigate virus-related threats

If this fast-moving pandemic has taught us anything, it is that elected officials need to respect the primacy of scientific evidence over politics. But there can be limits to that. The undeniable truth is that there is much about this coronavirus that is unknown, and irrefutable conclusions about all of its characteristics, including probabilities surrounding particular methods of spread, are still months away.

What public health experts can say with certainty is that social distancing, along with extensive testing, tracing and isolation of the infected and their contacts, is the best way to beat a pandemic. There is consensus on these measures. He would have been pilloried on social media, by many of his own supporters, and by the Chinese government. The opposition might have condemned him for overriding the well-founded recommendations of the country’s top public health official.

GlobeDebate True. But this no time for such philosophical talk, Dr. Tam. Please develop some quantitative models by areas, simulate these using different scenarios and inform the community, hungry for info, what it can expect under different scenarios. Calm the nation.

GlobeDebate We have it because of CHINA let say what it is and Trudeau didn't react fast enough. Tam won't say shit about china and there failure to control this virus or any virus transmitted from China. We should have closed the door on China months ago now we live in fear of sickness.

GlobeDebate Tam has no answers.....we then ask CHINA because it started there and they said nothing to the world and tried to cover it up but it got out of CHINA and out of control but Trudeau being afraid to insult there government didn't react to call it Chinese covid 19 and now we have it

GlobeDebate Tam is more concerned about Racism then Public Health. She is part of WHO disorganization, so she parrots the failed 'this is not transferred human to human'. Flights landed and Hot Spots are exactly same place, shocking. WHO is not trusted, China runs WHO, China lied

GlobeDebate Anyone else getting tired of listening to this dolt.

GlobeDebate The notion that wearing a mask is going to make you touch your face more often comes from which research study? In the mean time .... we are given stronger and stronger recommendations as number of deaths climb. At what death rate will we finally shut down the country?

GlobeDebate when Dr Tam has no answers...wear a mask in public..protect yourself and others..

GlobeDebate China saws reduction of new cases when everyone is forced to wear a mask in public.let us learn from this.

GlobeDebate because people with no symptoms can have the virus ...they are carriers and should not be in public without a mask.... Austria has made the rule..no one is to be in a grocery store without a mask.. only doing essential business puts everyone at the grocery store.. very vulnerable

GlobeDebate

GlobeDebate We should look and learn from other countries both what to do and what not to do.. Wear mask to protect other people since you don’t know that you carry the virus

GlobeDebate prudence like everyone wears mask?

GlobeDebate These stupid officials have no knowledge about the mask and did not study why Taiwan, Korea, Singapore and Japan the pandemic were well controlled without lockdown. One most important reason is all people there are wearing masks. That's why I say Tam and her team are stupid.

GlobeDebate Tam is as stupid as Trudeau. If they took actions weeks earlier, Canadians would not in such a difficult time. We all have been seeing how Canada got into this trouble step by step from out broke in middle of JAN. Even now, all the measures are taken far behind situation.

GlobeDebate Would shutting the border to Chinese airliners 2 month ago be considered prudence?

GlobeDebate Not if it means burning the economy

GlobeDebate So True. WHO:

GlobeDebate The Trudeau government made this crisis far worse by doing nothing until a week ago when public PRESSURE forced him to say he was closing borders and airports to hotspot travel...the time to act “prudent” was in January and February...!!!!

Trudeau defends new flights bringing Canadians home from across the globePrime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canadians being flown home from abroad must subject themselves to 'rigorous' and mandatory 14-day self-isolation to keep their fellow citizens safe. More of our money wasted. Sock boy will do anything for votes. When is he going to stop hiding and come out and be a leader. His wife has been cleared for a week now and he was not living in same place as her while she was in quarentine. Why is he still hiding? Who are these people? How long have they been away? Are they coming back just to take advantage of our health care system i.e. they might be Canadian in name but haven't lived here in years? The same bunch who think they should vote in our elections.
