The outreach centre, which is located at 241 Euston St., has been at the heart of a multi-year controversy in P.E.I.’s capital over how to manage rising homelessness, poverty and addiction. McLeod agrees the new staff members help prevent fights, but overall they haven’t changed the feeling of community at the centre. Having them on site just slows things down in tense situations, he said.
Jason Cormier, left, and Cody McLeod say they feel more comfortable at the Community Outreach Centre in Charlottetown now that there is full time security staff. Logan MacLean • The Guardian - Logan MacLeanSecurity started working at the centre in mid-summer, with two staff on at all times from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m, said Roxanne Carter-Thompson, executive director of the Adventure Group, which runs the centre, in an Aug. 30 SaltWire interview.
