TRURO, N.S. — Ian Cox had a chance to reconnect with some old friends recently during a business trip home to Nova Scotia.

“Those are great guys and they were always good to me,” Cox said. “And I tell everybody, I obviously wouldn’t be where I am right now if it wasn’t for Shawn (Evans) and that organization. Those were some of the best years of my life.” “It was good to see some people that were pretty instrumental in getting me to where I am now while we were there.”“It’s been really cool to watch his career develop and now he’s (on) the biggest stage of hockey in the world,” he said. “It was awesome.”The Senators were in Sydney for the Hockeyville game with the Florida Panthers on Oct. 1 and then played the Pittsburgh Penguins the next night in Halifax. The Senators had a team-building day at Fox Harb’r Resort before flying to Winnipeg on Oct.

“This was never the plan when I showed up there that day,” Cox said of working for an NHL team. “If I didn’t go see Shawn, I can only imagine where I would be right now. I really owe it all to them for giving me a chance.”“We always had good teams,” he said. “The organization is so consistent and first class, that’s why guys wanted to play there. They got treated well and had a chance to win.”

“It was very memorable,” he said. “It kind of gives you a little perspective and makes you appreciate how far you’ve come.”
