Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, who is closely aligned with former President Donald Trump, enacted the law on the first day of Pride Month, which celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community.
Supporters of the sports bills say transgender female athletes have an unfair advantage, having been designated male at birth but having since transitioned. Florida's law defines an athlete's sex as that stated on official documents at birth. Trump, his Republican predecessor, did not officially recognize Pride Month during his four years in office.
Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Montana, Tennessee and West Virginia have passed similar legislation and South Dakota's governor has signed an executive order supporting a sports ban. All have Republican governors.

Can't speak to the general attitudes of those Lawmakers proposing & passing these bills but female segregated sports came to be so females could excel & celebrate accomplishments in sports. Because competing against males they would never reach the podium in most sports.

Florida bans males from identifying their way into female sports.

I know this is polarizing but trans in sports would be unfair in a lot of ways. I’m not sure why that is contentious. It would have been like Bruce Jenner competing in the women’s decathlon. Not sure what that would have proved. South Park did an episode on this subject.
I was banned from the mens broomball league and the girls let me play in theirs. I'll never do that again.
