TORONTO -- George Floyd’s killing at the hands of police in Minneapolis and the ensuing wave of global protests have prompted many Canadians to take a deeper look at systemic racism, and national data reveals the stark racial divide in this country.
“Often when people see statistics like this, the assume that well, there’s clearly a rational and a good reason for this disparity,” Davis told CTVNews.ca in an interview Thursday. “Some racialized groups are seen as more productive, harder working, smarter — a ‘good minority’ — so they get absorbed far more quickly into the mainstream than Black new immigrants,” Davis said.
The data shows that Black youth are keen to achieve a higher education. Nearly 94 per cent of Black young people aged 15 to 25 surveyed in 2015 said they would like to complete a university degree, but only 59.9 per cent thought it was possible. As part of her research, Davis studied the impact on violence in youth communities in Toronto and Jamaica. The most profound finding, she said, was how strongly Black youth in Toronto pushed back against the idea that the greatest violence they had faced in their communities was physical violence.
I consider myself a liberal and I'm an immigrant as well. But you cannot simply make statistics based on skin colour. I will only believe these statistics if you compare someone people born in Canada, with the same education, same career, and same performance.

If the average age of blacks in the workforce is say.. 32, but the average age of whites in the workforce is 47, who’s likely to have a greater overall income, and greater overall accumulated wealth? This isn’t sloppy journalism, this is deliberately misleading.
People make poor choices in what they will do with their lives. Criminal activity, playing sports, or being an entertainer isn't going to pay the bills. Ether learn to code, get into STEM, or get a professional designation... This just is bad as the wage gap crap.

Those charts don’t prove anything anything at all. Take the thumbnail graph as an example, that’s just aggregate numbers. There is no incorporation of the multivariate factors that lead to disparities such as age, location, experience, education, etc. Typically inflammatory BS.
As a minority I dont think its simple as salary linked with racism. There is racism no doubt but minorities tend to take many jobs which are low paying as they dont have same opportunity. Many factors but I am not sure race is a factor. Canada is different compared to USA.
