A spokesperson for Edmonton Fire Rescue Services told Global News that crews were called to the building in the area of Jasper Avenue and 123 Street at 5:51 p.m. Firefighters arrived two minutes later and the fire was upgraded to a second alarm 12 minutes later.At 6:12 p.m., the fire was deemed under control, according to EFRS District Chief Rob Garth, noting that the fire broke out in one of the suites.

He said 24 firefighters initially responded to the building and that another 16 were later called in as well to help evacuate the building.“The fire was self-ventilating outside the balcony, so it was mostly contained to the fire suite,” Garth said. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire and Garth said crews were in the process of allowing people back into the building.Firefighters were called to a fire at an apartment building in Edmonton’s Oliver neighbourhood late Wednesday afternoon.
