The federal government has announced it will match every donation made by individual Canadians to a coalition of humanitarian organizations to help Lebanon in the aftermath of Tuesday’s deadly explosion.

On Saturday, International Development Minister Karina Gould said the government would launch the “Lebanon Matching Fund” in order to mobilize resources for those affected by the blast in Lebanon’s capital city of Beirut.between Aug. 4 and Aug. 24 will be matched by the federal government up to a maximum of $2 million.

“My message to Canadians is this: The best way that you can help is to donate money and for your contribution to be matched by the Government of Canada, donations must be made to the Humanitarian Coalition or one of its partners,” Gould said during a virtual press conference on Saturday morning. The 12 organizations that make up the Humanitarian Coalition are Action Against Hunger, Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Canadian Lutheran World Relief, CARE Canada, Doctors of the World, Humanity & Inclusion, Islamic Relief Canada, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec, Plan International Canada, Save the Children Canada and World Vision Canada.

Let the politicians in lebanon that stole billions of dollars in the past 40 years pay from there swiss bank accounts, corrupt politicians will steal again your donations. You must be crazy thinking you helping lebanon, its going straight into corrupt politicians pockets.

CTVToronto People, I know this sounds tough, but don’t donate. Fed money comes from us too.

I wished the feds would match pay me for all the taxes they took off me.

I’m all for helping others, but did I not just read an article about Canadians who didnt have clean drinking water

Some people get rich with good intention money. I remember my family lost a house during the earthquake nobody helped to buit it back

So my tax dollars are now going to Lebanon, awesome just awesome 🙄. Dear JustinTrudeau 🖕

So no one should donate and that solves the problem!

wow , double whammy on Canadian tax payers . nothing like paying twice for services NOT Canadian .

The Trudeau “Liberals” cannot account for tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer money under their own control right here in Canada and yet they expect Canadians to believe this money will be well managed in Lebanon. They really think Canadians are stupid.

With our own money.

The corrupt Liberals will steal every single dollar. They like shaking down charities even more than getting kickbacks for government contracts that are never completed or even started.

So Canadians can donate with their money & the Federal Govt (Trudeau) will match by spending our money.

LIVE: Minister Gould on providing aid to LebanonLIVE NOW: International Development Minister Gould holds a press conference on providing aid to Lebanon after catastrophic explosion. Canada always tosses few crumbs at every tragedy. Why not seed a foundation, only pay from revenues? How about an adopt-a-country approach to foreign aid? Every year pick country in each region; coordinate with business, NGOs, faith groups, schools, all canadians for real impact! Have we solved homelessness, drug use, voids in mental health care , food shortage or faults in disruption to those in need, domestic abuse, child abuse, crime in general? If not, plz mark me as hesitant in what aid we send. Skilled rescuers, and water purification only. The Trudeau “Liberals” cannot account for tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer money under their own control right here in Canada and they expect Canadians to believe this money will be well managed in Lebanon.
