As scores of American children return to classrooms under the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic, free speech experts have bristled at the sight of a public school punishing a student for practicing her right to free speech by sharing a photo of classmates not wearing masks and not social distancing on campus.

looked like at the end of a school day, was suspended for five days for violating several parts of the school's code of conduct, she said. Those violations included using a cell phone during school hours, using social media during school hours and violating student privacy by photographing them, she said. The school reversed the suspension on Friday; Hannah can return to class on Monday, she added.

There is no expectation of privacy in a crowded public school hallway, Hiestand said. As such, there's no reasonable claim that these sorts of photos are violating anyone's legal right to privacy, particularly now when the lead headline of many news organizations has to do with students returning to school during a global pandemic, he added. The First Amendment and what it means to students

When it comes to cell phones and whether they are a disruption, administrators can impose reasonable restrictions such as not using them during school hours but a principal cannot legally control what students post on social media off campus or after hours, though these attempts are seen from time to time, Gutterman said.

Posting pictures of people without their consent is not ok. Neither is publicly shaming.

This is nothing compared to what is taking place in Australia.

🙄

Open the schools full force, no masks because this is BS already. It’s unfortunate the pro maskers will abuse their children forcing them to wear a mask that does not work.

Many will have medical exemption anyway. open it up.

Randall Denley: Smaller classes won't guarantee added safety for studentsIt\u0027s easy to call for physical distancing in schools, but how practical is it? Children have a .000007 percent chance of dying from CV19 Why is this not mentioned If teachers don't want to teach because of fear then they can quit. If some parents don't want to send their kids to school then they will be uneducated with no future. Their child will be beggars and surfs. Fear creates unhinged frightened people. Oh Randall, you’re so naive. Lol. This has nothing to do with the “safety” of students. Like the rotating strikes that when on for months, this is about teachers union power and about bashing the Ford government and most of all about $$$. For the teachers.

How going maskless became socially unacceptable - Macleans.caFor many Canadians, a non-religious face-covering used to signal danger or shame. Now going without one does. Mask use increased because the government made it mandatory, but of course you media puppets will try and gaslight everyone by claiming it was a society-wide decision and not because the government FORCED us to wear masks. I'm sure your masters will approve of your propaganda I have an exemption. Every municipal bylaw has exemptions and every one of those bylaws says, you only need to self identify as having an exemption, no proof is required. Not only that, it's against human rights law to make someone prove a disability. This title - I know this pandemic has felt like years but I feel like we all remember how mask wearing came to be
