An Ontario couple has spent the past six months trying to rebuild their lives after a tornado tore through their business.

"We have no help from the province, no help from the municipality and no help from the federal government," said Rob.

It prompted Tweed Mayor Don DeGenova to call for changes in how the country and province support communities hit by natural disasters, warning the damage left behind is often far more than municipalities can take on.DeGenova has been calling on the provincial government to support people in the community whose properties were hit by the tornado.with maximum wind speeds of 190 km/h hit and left a trail of destruction about 55 kilometres long.

Tweed isn't alone in pushing for provincial support in the wake of the tornado. Hastings County Warden Bob Mullin sent a strongly-worded letter to two Ontario ministers — natural resources and forestry, and municipal affairs and housing — on Dec. 20, describing "countless trees" that had been levelled and a "serious safety risk."

The Haids estimate hundreds of trees on their property were uprooted by the tornado, which also tossed trailers and tore off siding. Even six months later he still finds new issues, he said, and figures the final bill will be about $250,000.

Way to go govt's! Any excuse NOT to help. New criteria needed to QUALIFY for assistance?

The taxpayers should not be on the hook for any of this. The damage is the responsibility of the property owner and his insurer.

You’ve gotta take responsibility for your own property and clean it up, crying the media seems rather juvenile but from your entitled attitude I’m certain I know how you vote.

Hey ... when you going to publicly apologize for straight up lying about a conservative politician? Or has integrity 100% left your buildings? 🤡🤡🤡

Quackscenes maim and murder Forced quackscenes is medical rape Millions have died, millions are suffering Trudeau needs to answer for his crimes Courts need to send him to jail People have had it If he dies on the streets it will be bad Turn yourself in Do the right thing

I feel their pain, dealing with the aftermath of Fiona. It’s brutal.

I suspect the damages to buildings and contents were paid for by the insurance company. Insurers don’t generally insure your trees when damaged by wind, which can be expensive to remove and replace.

My heart goes out to those who were effected by the tornado, although I always wonder when people will learn that the 'government' is not your friend. Look at their history and it is clear to see they do not ACTUALLY care like they pretend to... Everyone is on their own!

Plastic straws and Trump are to blame clearly.

Keep voting liberal that’s what u get while Ukraine 🇺🇦 took billions of Canadian tax dollars

And still the large majority of rural folks vote conservative🤦‍♀️ricbresee_mpp

The liberals say they will be there for you. They are all talk ,No action.
