The Durham Police service has confirmed it is investigating a social media post by an officer who cheered on truckers heading to Ottawa to protest a COVID-19 vaccination mandate, a demonstration the officer declares part of a “war” over “rights and freedoms”., the officer, who identifies herself as Erin Howard, speaks into a camera while dressed in her uniform.

Some truckers are opposed to the mandate, which took effect Jan. 15 and regulates drivers who cross the Canada – U.S. border. Unvaccinated truckers are required to undergo testing and are subject to quarantine periods under the policy. “The personal opinions in that video do not reflect the views and the opinions of the Durham Regional Police Service,” Bovie said.Durham police officers are bound by a professional code of conduct, Bovie said.
