TORONTO — No aspect of Canadian life has been left untouched by the COVID-19 pandemic, including politics, and pundits agree the premier of Ontario is one of those most transformed by the outbreak.
“I’m a Liberal, but I’ll give Doug Ford a lot of credit — he’s handling this really well,” said Dan Molton, vice-president at Crestview Strategy and former senior staff member in the previous Liberal government. “He’s being transparent, responsive, engaging. Ontarians are really seeing him in action.”
He arbitrarily slashed the size of Toronto city council half-way through a municipal election campaign, then threatened to invoke the rarely used notwithstanding clause to overturn a court decision that found his actions unconstitutional. The case will now be heard by the Supreme Court of Canada. Political communications consultant Tim Abray said clear messaging has long been one of Ford’s political strengths, noting that aspect of his performance to date has not come as a surprise.
But the new announcements have also included measures that depart radically from his government’s usual agenda, such as boosting income for some poor residents and jettisoning the party’s oft-stated goal of balancing the province’s books.
Doug Ford is an unlikely guy to have as premier, and I certainly never voted for him and never will. But he has done a decent job of shepherding the province along during this Covid 19 business. Have to give him credit where it's due.
Not only Doug Ford but all the Provincial Premiers and the PM of Canada are drawing praise from friends and foes. Coronavirus has taught us an important lesson: If we stand united we can overcome any obstacle. Unity in diversity. Thank you 🙏
Because for a change he is not playing bitch ...
He should be praised for following Trudeau’s footsteps. Otherwise he was laying off front line workers and cutting public health.
I noticed that in many government updates that those providing the updates are shoulder to shoulder and not 3 meters apart from one another.
A pleasant surprise in all this unpleasantness.
this is NOT the time to be praising ANYONE The fat lady ain't done singing
I dont remember him out there viture signaling telling us its no big deal. Go kiss a China man on the mouth or your racist either.. Like all the other Liberal and NDP ass clowns.
Doug Ford and other premiers have had no choice but to carry the weight of the federal government which has completely screwed up the response to this.
Let's hope a great leader is in the making!
fordnation thank you Honourable Doug Ford for all you do!
Doug is doing a great job during this situation. Only the far left Liberals will always complain. E.G like CNN MSNBC .
He's doing an amazing job way to go fordnation.
Well you got something right this time. Kudos to Premier Ford.
Ford my be an pugnacious bully who grew up with privilege, but unlike Trump, he seems to value advice from experts, like all the other premiers.
BobBaileyPC Awesome job
At some point we have to be grateful..
👍👍
As it should.....
Good job Doug. Now start making a plan to open the economy. Restaurants at partial capacity for starters.
Great job Doug Ford
Ford has been solid during this crisis.
I didn’t vote for him, but I do approve the job he’s doing handling coronavirus.
