Internal government documents show four federal departments have quietly spent months crafting an answer to a cross-party call for the government to end veterans homelessness by 2025.

It called for the government to deliver by next summer a plan to meet the target, which also included a special rent-assistance program for homeless veterans.

The Liberals' throne speech this month included a promise that the government will help ensure "that every homeless veteran has a place to call home," although it didn't provide a timeline to do so. In meetings with groups since becoming minister, Hussen has been asked to carve out a specific portion of the housing benefit for veterans amid worries they'll be left off the list of people eligible. Officials told Duclos in the July 9 briefing note the concerns stem from provinces' and territories' reluctance to fund veterans' housing because "they are considered a federal responsibility.

If Canada were to take any lessons from the U.S., it would be to have the right programs, the necessary spending and political will, said Nan Roman, president of the Washington-based National Alliance to End Homelessness.

Let's hope the various agencies do get in each other's way when trying to help the homeless vets.

They should have done it years ago!🤗

I'll believe it when I see it.

Nothing says “problem solving efficiency” like multiple government programs.....

How many times have we heard this?

least they can do

We could kick all the boarder jumpers out of the Radison in Toronto.

Why do we not take batter care of our warriors?

None of them have spoken to us or the Legion. We have been working on this for 10 years and have housed hundreds of homeless veterans across Canada. 80% of our calls come from VAC so you think they would want to talk to the only National organization that helps homeless veterans.

Do any of these myriad agencies talk to each other or are they duplicating each other's ideas?

This situation is disgraceful and is really a Simple fix, if Trudeau stopped pissing away Canadian dollars all over the world and prioritizing illegal border crossers ahead of our own veterans.
