Stretched beyond the number of beds available, Grand River Hospital in Kitchener is once again dealing with "hallway medicine" as patients waiting for a bed are treated in the hall.
Across the region, 215 new hospital beds have been added during the pandemic, 146 of them at Grand River Hospital. The hospital is also admitting patients to parts of the hospital they normally wouldn't go – for example, adults being sent to the pediatric ward, said hospital president and CEO Ron Gagnon.
"All of the beds that we have been able to open in this region, we need to make sure stay in operation long term, not just to the end of this pandemic."
Oh great, one hospital to tell it all
Welcome to the state of Toronto hospitals for the last decade. Time for a health tax on smokers, drinkers and the obese.
Anytime you go to Emergency it's a 4 hr minimum wait. This is just more telling of the state of the medical system in general
Stop treating the unvaccinated for Covid, and much of this problem is mitigated.
Lack of forsite by the governments in Canada over the years has gotten us where we are today with healthcare facilities, no political will to put money where needed only where it gets the most votes or personal benefits. Overcapacity in hospitals is not new.
In 1985 Canada had 7 Hospital beds per 100,000 Canadians, today we have 2.5 per 100,000. If only there was some way to have foreseen this.
It will get even worse this decade. The number of people over 85 quadruples from 2011 to 2031.
Maybe your hospital should have expanded as the population of the city has. There's a problem with the infection of torontonians into kw.
Where are the better vaccines like Novavax, Corbevax, and Medicago? Nobody wants to be a lab rat for Pfizer.
10 years ago I waited in the hallway on a bed with an i.v. for 2 days in Credit Valley Mississauga. Nothing has changed
Oh that can’t be. It’s mild. People aren’t getting sick from it. This is the garbage I keep hearing from confirmed anti vaxers.
Keep voting liberal
