Despite calls from federal and provincial leaders to recall Parliament early in light of the CN Rail strike, Government House Leader Pablo Rodriguez says the first day of the new Parliament will remain Dec. 5.

“The date set is Dec. 5 and that’s what’s going to happen,” Rodriguez said in an interview with CTV’s Question Period host Evan Solomon. Freight trains across Canada have been halted for the better part of a week, after 3,200 Canadian National Railway Co. workers took to the picket lines on Tuesday after a deadline for an agreement between the company and the Teamsters union couldn’t be reached by Monday at midnight.

Last Tuesday, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and his energy minister, Sonya Savage, called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to “immediately” call back the House of Commons to enact back-to-work legislation for CN Rail, saying that any disruption to the "170,000 barrels of Western Canadian oil" CN Rail ships per day "would have serious consequences for an economy that is already dealing with severe bottlenecks due to cancelled and delayed pipelines.

In an interview airing on Sunday, Trudeau’s new point-person on government legislation indicated that the Liberals have no plans to kick off the 43rd Parliament any earlier than already scheduled.with the election of a House of Commons speaker and a throne speech.

Should the strike still be happening by then it’s likely the Liberals would have the support of the Conservatives to pass a bill forcing the striking CN Rail workers back on the job.

Dec 5 is too long & too dangerous, crappy useless federal government can't get anything done

This liberal government is a joke.

Shocker, Canada's joke of a gov't won't return till Dec 5. They are too busy bowing to communist China right now to be worried about some silly strike. Trudeau admires their basic dictatorship.

Read that the Quebec propane shortage has been partially solved so the sock-boy puppet will not do anything. He doesn’t give a damn about western farmers and his union buddies who are striking will keep him under control.

Par for the course. Atta boy JT. Stability.

A so-called 'intelligent and clever' guy voids all of his qualities when he puts his faith in the dumbest leader of all time: Justin Trudeau. trudeaufail trudeaumustgo trudeauisdone TrudeauWorstPM TrudeauBlackface captaincrayon jihadijustin kokaneegroper cdnpoli

Horrible. CN and TCRC couldn’t give a rats ass about the impact to the Canadian economy and jobs. I would have thought that’s what governments were for, ie when the children are fighting, the grownups need to put an end to it.

mariem201 Yeah: it’s called respecting collective bargaining rights. The whole POINT of a strike is to force management to deal. This issue has been going on for a long time with no movement. istandwithunions and accept the increased cost to me. It’s for the greater good.

Liberals are bound and determined to destroy this country.

Sad, the govt hasn’t even sat and the liberals are already showing there arrogance towards western farmers and the oil patch.

Classic lieberal response, hide and hope the problem(s) resolve themselves or just go away

This Government has no ability or desire to jump in when needed. Ignorance is an art with arrogant, narcissistic Trudeau as usual.

Of course they won’t; Trudeau and staff have to get their Christmas shopping done first. priorities

yfblanchet is getting exactly what he asked for...no fossil fuels from the west.

So much concern for the west. NOT.

Is SNC being affected? TrudeauWorstPM may change his mind.

Canada Post cupw employees, this is a good time for a nationwide wildcat strike. 🤔

I hope Quebec remembers that next time there's an election.

Wow, this is just a way to continue to anger Western Canada. WAKE UP JustinTrudeau do your job

Lol Quebec ..

I can not believe Edmonton producer's sent them propane. Weak knees boys, weak knees.

Who would ever think liberals would actually work, even in a national emergency Focking slugs

Isn't Pablo Rodriguez the Minister of Driving Under the Influence, and Blowing over .08?

ctvqp Remember it’s the union that were one of the primary supporters of the Liberal party during the election, it’s payback time

ctvqp Quebec Premier has weighed in so I suspect on Monday Trudeau will intervene. As Quebec is the favoured child of the nation while Western provinces are the step-children who get ignored, pablorodriguez justintrudeau. On the other hand, let them freeze they do not want pipelines

Government should not interfere in the Free Enterprise system. Mega Corporations don’t need to be mollycoddled.

Pretty sure some things are more important.

Already going backwards on their promises of working for the economy & unity. Did anyone believe them?

ctvqp Bad move pablorodriguez BAD MOVE!!! Recall the house December 2nd to have emergency debates on this issue. The economy is at extreame risk. cdnpoli ctvqp ctvpp

As it should be

Why is it always “get back to work, your concerns aren’t important” and not “get these contracts signed fairly so we can go on with our business”? Government intervention is always on the side of the corporation and never the workers

Typical Turdeau arrogance. I see he's reestablish his stellar relationship with the west

Hopefully the weather gets cold in Quebec, fuckin toasty here in Saskatchewan

Federal government resists mounting pressure to end CN Rail strikeThe federal government is resisting calls to intervene in a railway strike despite the spectre of a propane shortage in Quebec and rising pressure from premiers and CEOs across the country to reconvene Parliament ahead of schedule and legislate the 3,200 Canadian National Railway Co. employees back to work. Trudeau... Too bad, so sad, with all the bitching going on by the Premiers, it only displays Canada's economy was crippled & is hanging on by the short hairs long before this strike, 2 carriers don't have the capacity, but the Minister of Labour, Transport and Public Safety just don't care PM Spicoli doesn’t feel like going back to work before he was supposed to, so stop expecting him too.
