Boris Johnson’s administration was facing questions about his health and grip on government as the U.K. prime minister prepared to spend a second night in the hospital and the minister deputizing for him said they hadn’t spoken since Saturday.
But later on Monday, his office said Johnson had been taken into the intensive care unit after his COVID-19 worsened. “He’s in charge,” Raab told the daily Downing Street press conference. “He’ll continue to take doctors’ advice. We have a team which is full throttle making sure that his directions and his instructions are being followed through.”
At the press conference, Raab also signalled the U.K. faces more weeks of lockdown as the effort to slow the spread of the virus continues.
