Unifor president Lana Payne says workers need to be compensated for damage already done to their purchasing power. Find out more.

Lana Payne, president of Unifor, warned in an interview that workers need to be compensated for damage already done to their purchasing power.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc. Payne’s union, and others, have been ramping up wage demands in recent months, seeking some of the biggest pay gains in a generation. While they keep their demands private, Unifor locals have recently won average annual increases of 5.3 per cent for mine workers and five per cent for logistics workers, while Teamsters Canada won salary increases of up to 7.2 per cent for dockworkers and truck drivers.

The tough stance from organized labour is an obstacle for the Bank of Canada’s efforts to curb consumer price gains. It also casts doubt on governor Tiff Macklem’s assertion in a speech this month that wage pressure “now looks to be plateauing.”

Abolish Unions bloodsucking cretins .

“Inflation continues for the foreseeable future.” - Now that’s some hard hitting reporting right there. Next week: “Workers continue to need money to survive, don’t want paycheques eroded to irrelevance.” That will get some chins wagging.

America hates unions

Will have to get used to more interest rate hikes then.

Cost of living allowance

They haven't figured out that raises, like taxes, increase the cost of everything - inflation! How's that $30 McCrappy meal working out for you? Every increase raises the cost of living but some only care about themselves and yap about 'fairness'.

Oh do stop. The average wage increase in Canada all sectors last month alone...in one month..was 5.6%. Wage increases have been at historic lows since 1976. They have not kept pace with inflation or even close. Wages too low ARE the problem in productivity. No $ can't spend

Unions are nothing more than mafia style extortion

You mean squeezing their bosses out of over-inflated bonus pay.

Ah unions, so disjointed and uninformed

They expect taxpayers to remain their credit cards forever.
