Hundreds of truckers and supporters left Calgary on Monday as part of a journey to the nation’s capital in protest of a federal vaccine mandate.
Vashty Dansereau organized a send-off party just outside of Calgary for truckers who left for Ottawa Monday. While Dansereau won’t be joining the convoy herself because she has children at home, she said she’ll be supporting from Calgary through “word of mouth and social media.” The country’s largest trucking federation, meanwhile, has denounced the protests and encouraged truckers who want to speak out against the mandates to “hold an organized, lawful event on Parliament Hill or contact their local MP.”
A GoFundMe raising money to help the truckers with the cost of fuel, food and lodging along the way had reached more than $3.2 million as of Monday morning.
