Defence lawyer Jamie Vacon said his client “clearly and unequivocally has full knowledge of what the right and scope and effect of the waiver is” as far as essentially giving up his citizenship rights for five years.Crown attorney Rick Hartlen said the recommendation was a joint one between the Crown and defence.

Desrosiers was released from prison in Massachusetts in 2019 after serving all of a 23-year sentence for convictions that included kidnapping, aggravated rape, rape, assault with intent to rape, and assault and battery. His female victims ranged in age from 16 to 47.The ban is covered in a three-year probationary sentence, followed by two years of a peace bond for violent offenders.

On the night of Dec. 4 and into the early hours of Dec. 5, Desrosiers started following the same woman as she walked through Yarmouth, but this time down several side streets.“She actually confronted him and he denied that he was following her, but it was very clear that he was.”
