As people get back to regular socializing, demand for this product is not being met.

A nationwide shortage of some children's Tylenol fever and pain medication is making it difficult not only for some parents to find, but for some pharmacies to keep it on the shelves, such as at this Murphy's Pharmacy in Charlottetown. - Cody McEachernCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Parents across P.E.I. might have some difficulties finding a specific brand of children’s fever and pain medication as pharmacies struggle to restock the product.

“Demand exploded during the first quarter of the year with people treating milder symptoms of Omicron with over-the-counter products. Jim Cormier, director of government relations for the Retail Council of Canada, says the shortage of some children's Tylenol products is due to both increased demand and a shortage of needed ingredients to make the medication. SaltWire Network visited five pharmacies in Charlottetown on Aug. 18. At all of them, such as this Shoppers Drug Mart, most, if not all, liquid children’s Tylenol products were out of stock.

While SaltWire Network was visiting pharmacies, several other children’s options were available for purchase, however some had more stock than others at the various stores.Everton McLean, chief communications officer for Health P.E.I., said the department is monitoring the situation. “There's a shortage of some of the inputs that go into these types of medication as well, and that's worldwide,” he said.
