The pandemic has only accelerated a years-long trend for many groups that have sought alternative revenue streams through the sale of goods and services

Bruce MacDonald, Imagine Canada’s chief executive, said about 48 per cent of charity revenues in Canada come from this earned income.

Those separate entities aren’t usually subject to the same transparency rules as the charities themselves, he said. “This is terrible if people think there’s a problem with social enterprise because it’s the only way that we are able to achieve greater impact and some stability of financing,” Julia Deans, chief executive of Habitat for Humanity Canada, said in an interview.

MacDonald said the WE organization’s complicated structure with multiple foundations and arms isn’t representative of the sector. He said there is concern that donors will pull back on giving money, or volunteers their time, due to a lack of trust in how their efforts are used as more questionable details about the WE organization emerge.Another worry is that governments will hesitate to partner with charities over political concerns.

Thanks Justin. Another botched job!

They lost my support. Sorry but I am not donating so the rich can travel and abuse the generosity of donars

Doesnt the globe and smail rely on WE charity support?

Corruption start at the top

All Charities should demand a full forensic audit of WE charity so that they can either be exonerated or shown to be an exception. The mushy middle hurts everybody.

They should. All charities or Funds should now be investigated for fiscal fraud &/or corruption, & political ties. It is to the detriment of all charitable mandates that they now will suffer from the corruption of WE & trudeau LPC.

CDN’s need to stop supporting these large charities, many are so top heavy with management that only pennies on the dollar go to the cause, donate to local charity groups like the rotary, lions, Shriners etc where there is no overhead and 100% of your donation goes to the cause

More proof the clown is destroying Canada & scaring charities into being untrusted! JustinTrudeau must step down & face his ethics violations that include promoting former Ontario AG who is accused criminal & allows former Federal AG to accept bribe from another accused criminal

Stay as a single organization, stay humble, never convince yourself your CEO is worth seven figures as just breaking six should be the max and don't let your marketing budget take over your cause.

I NEVER donate to any charity that has a CEO pulling over six figures $$$$$ !

Stay small, stay humble and never convince yourself your CEO is worth seven figures.

They are all corrupt follow the money only a small amount of money actually makes it to the ones that needs it

garden_nome1 And so they should

Well, G&M, you did a great job of destroying a lot of charitable work and summer pay for students, all in the name of an empty 'scandal'.

Where was this kind of reporting when it was needed to help explain what was happening during the Cons/NDP claims that went uncontested by media? Where was the push back, and where is it now, on Scheer, Singh, Poillievre etc. Damage is done. Horrific journalism.

Ask the Trudeau family, I hear they have money. Their friends the Westons may have a few bucks in the couch cushions too.

Well they can blame Justin for that.

Ufff you aren't even free press. You present highly biased, mostly paid by the government, articles. You don't do journalism but activism. You are FAKE.

Give to the Ronald McDonald house .. They helped my Family. Janeway children’s Hospital.. They helped my Family.

Sad, but I think it will.

Shouldn't have anything to be concerned about if they are above board and not involved with corrupt politicians The small number of charities I support aren't losing that support because of the actions of WE or disgusting behaviour of the PM They get judged on there own merits

If they are in good standing with Charity Intelligence Canada, they don't need to worry. The logic is very simple: if you called John Smith and you heard about a guy named John Smith accused of terrorism, will you worry about being arrested? If you did nothing then no.

Charities need to call out the obvious corruption in WE if they want sympathy. The goal of charity's cant be to enrich those who work for them.

Cpc and ndp have destroyed the charitable sector
