When accounting for the federal government’s performance on containing the virus, it’s hard to understand why anyone would approve

Comparatively, the feds get off easy. Only 52 per cent disapprove of Trudeau’s handling of the pandemic. This might be because the provinces have done a worse job than Ottawa, but just as likely it’s because while it’s Ford who closes restaurants, it is Trudeau who cuts laid-off workers cheques so they can still pay their rent.

Countries that have succeeded most at keeping variants out — Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea — have implemented more consistent travel bans and more comprehensive testing and quarantining of travellers than Canada, which implemented measures late or relied on travel advisories. So, yes, the provinces failed to control the spread of the virus, and failed to use prior shutdowns to build up testing and tracing capacity, but this wave has the potential to become so much worse because of the variants the federal government failed to keep out.Article content

Ahhhh so did most places. It hits different places at different times. We as the public need to do more.

This is journalism? Let's see you skill level... they failed at 'insert anything and everything'.

The simplest thing; stop all inbound people from entry without a negative C19 test... and they could not figure it out. This scourge is transported by humans.

Decades of poor short term decision making - culminating in the worst human crisis I have ever seen in Canada in my lifetime. Lessons learned from SARS forgotten? Lives sacrificed for nothing? Pales in comparison.

Not surprising , he’s an amateur everything

The federal response has been miserable from the onset of this pandemic.

Again, blame those coming back who broke the rules and introduced the virus in our communities.

The planes from India still coming to Canada, Trudeau learned nothing and now has replaced Trump as Covid champ

He sure did. ✈️ ✈️✈️

How many countries have avoided variants? Let's check back next week. Yup, no different that the first form of Covid.

Inept that is what he is. He was elected only because of his last name and good looks, and now when things get difficult with this pandemic, and we more than ever need a true leader, he fails as expected!

About time you put the blame where it belongs vs the province. He screwed up with project management 101 to bring in vaccine. Or he was put last in line. Either way.

Aren’t variants tearing through the entire world?

Never shut down travel to or from China.

Right, so the rest of the world getting the same ones is also his fault right? Does anyone in the con party think at all?

what an utter failure of governance this Trudeau govt! Total incompetence- who is going to be accountable?

Stupid comments

He does not care. We the citizens have to speak up. Our lives and livelihoods are at stake. Politicians would rather shut down the economy, schools and put everyone at risk instead of shutting down borders.

Unless Canada closed off all travel it would have been impossible to avoid variants. That being said, each Province was responsible for managing their own people. We closed off travel to the rest of Canada and Internationally. Other Provinces should have done the same.

who succeeded? this headline is plain stupid.

Begin with the TrudeauCOVIDColludingPM end in mind. From the PMO: Q2 2021: Daily new COVID-21 cases, Enhanced Third Lock Down, Universal Basic Income, Canada’s HealthPass transition, Projected inventory shortages, large scale economic instability.

And he has failed to provide vaccines in a timely manner and get them into Canadians arms.

Right, because every other country in the world has done SO WELL at keeping the variants out...

Federal government considering additional travel restrictions as variants surgeAs Canada grapples with surging cases involving variants of concern, the federal government is considering travel restrictions to halt potential spread.
