GM Patrik Allvin made the announcement Tuesday, while also saying Rob Drapala and Michael Orenstein are joining the club as doctors

General manager Patrik Allvin made the announcement Tuesday, while also saying Dr. Rob Drapala and Dr. Michael Orenstein are joining the club as team physicians.

Regan replaces Dr. Jim Bovard in the top doc position. The Canucks did not say why Bovard, who runs a family and sports medicine clinic in North Vancouver, is no longer in the role. Regan has been on the Canucks medical staff for over two decades, and assumes the role of the team’s primary full-time doctor. He has also served as an associate professor and head of arthroscopy at the University of B.C. since 1996. He has a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Toronto.

Drapala is a primary-care sports medicine physician and clinical instructor in sports medicine at UBC. His doctor of medicine is also from UBC, and he has served as chief medical officer for the 2019 World Junior Championships and for UBC varsity athletics, as well as head doctor for the Vancouver Whitecaps’ academy program.

Orenstein is a sport and exercise medicine physician who serves as a clinical instructor in UBC’s department of family practice. He’s worked at World Junior Championships, Ironman Whistler and UBC athletics.
