Nurses in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta have cited occupational health and safety legislation that allows employees to refuse work they believe is unsafe

Dozens of nurses across Canada have invoked labour laws to demand the right to wear N95 masks while treating certain COVID-19 patients, their national union head says, as health-care workers gird themselves for a feared wave of new coronavirus cases.

Doctors and nurses across the country have reported a shortage of N95 respirators, with many facilities now keeping them under lock and key. None of the protesting nurses walked off the job, but most ended up being redeployed to other areas, said Silas. Under the Alberta joint statement, similar to the Ontario accord, workers will perform a “point of care risk assessment” before every patient interaction.

This has been going on for weeks now. Various Nurses were threatened with disciplinary action is they wore PPE. The national post has avoided reviewing this with the government

The fact that they have to ask for being allowed to wear a mask is outrageous. Fire anyone who is telling nurses not to wear one.

Current PPE for working w/ Covid-19 pts is same as with any flu patient. Gloves, gown, surgical mask & eye shield. Generally ok for close proximity & minor contact but not necessarily w/ certain hands on care. If we have supply, let the professional on scene decide. If not...

When we provide them with cheap sabotaged masks from China, they wont feel any better. For security and quality we can trust we will need to produce them here. Canada needs to cut the cord.

Is this Gov't insane? I think I know the answer! 🤔 Give health care workers proper personal protection equipment! Masks, gowns, gloves. Repurpose manufacturing. Everyone should have masks. See first part of this video how Taiwan is beating the crises!

realDonaldTrump JustinTrudeau fordnation Ontarion nurses deserve the rights to wear N95 for themselves and their love ones...

I would have thought this a no-brainer. Every nurse should have properly fitting N95 masks that can be sanitized and reused readily available.

Nurses are exempt from the right to refuse work.

They should cover their hair as it can become a source of infection PHAC_GC

Just do it. You can’t wait for an answer from a leader who only works 15, minutes in the morning. Do what you need to do to protect yourselfs.

They... They don't ALREADY have a right to wear the correct PPE while working with hazards in the workplace? I know there are different regulations for unsafe work with emergency services but come on; that's ridiculous.

We already have treatments that are nearly 100% successful, but because those treatments have existed for decades and are cheap, there’s no money to be made. So, we see the push for an unnecessary vaccine. It isn’t about health, it’s about patents and money. Alas, that won't be the only vaccine that humanity will need.
