Funeral held Thursday in Patel family's home village of Dingucha, India.

Posted: Jan 28, 2022 6:38 PM CT | Last Updated: 12 minutes ago

It's believed the family was part of a group trying to walk across the international border into the U.S., but got separated from the rest during a blizzard and froze to death near the Manitoba town of Emerson on Jan. 19.Shortly before the family's bodies were discovered, U.S. officials had detained seven other Indian nationals on the American side of the border.

Jha said both Jagdish and Vaishaliben used to be teachers, and more recently the father worked in the garment industry.Despite being a highly industrialized state, thousands of locals from Gujarat leave for the United States and Canada looking for better opportunities. "The Patel community has historically chosen to settle abroad but now we are seeing increased number of cases where people are willing to sell their land, gold just to find a way to live in Canada or America," said the official, Ajay Parmar.Posters of travel and immigration agents advertising what they describe as easy U.S., U.K. and Canadian visa facilities are pasted on several walls of the village square — including some believed to be for illegal smuggling operations.

Without key players, Canada shows flexibility in historic win vs. HondurasWithout Davies and Eustaquio, Canada won on Honduran soil for the first time in 37 years — healing its soul from a devastating 8-1 defeat in 2012, and bolstering hopes of qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar. 🇨🇦 ✍: GalindoPW GalindoPW Can you give an update on Davies. GalindoPW Honduras is the dirtiest team I've ever seen. They have no business on the pitch. GalindoPW Love this Canadian team, but Sportsnet can you please give us a more professional commentator than the embarrassing Gareth Wheeler?
