Saturday’s provincial election saw the New Democratic Party, led by John Horgan, win a majority government

. The Liberals dropped a dozen seats, leaving it with only two of 11 seats in Vancouver and two of nine seats in Surrey. In the 2017 election, no party won a majority. The Liberals had the most seats but lost power after the Green Party agreed to support a minority NDP government.

Veteran Liberal MLA Mike de Jong, re-elected in his Abbotsford-area seat, said Monday there will be an internal debate about the timing of the next leadership race. Mr. de Jong said Mr. Wilkinson contacted the Liberal caucus in a conference call immediately after his public announcement. Former B.C. finance minister Kevin Falcon said the party needs a new fiscally conservative leader who understands affordability issues for families and how to increase the size of the economic pie, as opposed to the New Democrats “who just want to distribute from a shrinking pie.”

BC Liberal leader stepping down after election night lossThe leader of the BC Liberal Party is stepping down from his role following an election night loss that saw NDP gains in ridings once held by his party. Goodbye Hannibal Lecter Merger between Liberals and Conservatives? Talk about out of touch! That’s the entire problem with this party, it can’t decide if it’s Conservative or Liberal and half the time it’s got candidates & policies that already overlap. Good Luck, BC! John deserves the win. He kept every election promise except for 10$ a day day care from a lack of support from the Green Party. Now with a majority can fulfill that too meaning 100%success , a first in BC history. Great job premier Horgan. Your kidding stability where

What lessons does John Horgan's big B.C. election victory hold for Justin Trudeau? The success of incumbent provincial governments during the COVID\u002D19 pandemic has undoubtedly not been missed in the Prime Minister\u0027s Office It doesn’t affect Trudeau at all because the BC Liberal Party is not affiliated with the Federal Liberal Party since they merged with the BC Conservative Party Apples and orange comparison - BC NDP had zero scandal and did a good job for 3 yrs, Trudeau? In power for 1 yr and multiple scandals and debatable whether he and his party have done a good job etc....provincial politics much different than federal cdnpoli

Vaughn Palmer: B.C. Liberals handed Horgan victory with a badly run, slow-off-the-mark campaignOpinion: Horgan gets to govern unfettered, but Furstenau back to be a thorn in his side That’s why jjhorgan did it that way to kill any opposition in the Legislature. Others trusted daddy Horgan to follow what he had set up; a specific Election Day Does that lead me to trust what he says and does? NOPE. There was suppose to be fixed election dates in BC installed by the Gordon Campbell government. How the hell could Horgan call an early election? How come nobody holds the NDP accountable? Sure helps when you have no time to plan or execute. Horgan planned for months to do this. And it worked out for him. BC must be very concerned about covid since they gave the guy who ran an election during a campaign a majority.
