A 26-year-old woman from British Columbia has died after a shooting involving a police officer in Edmundston, N.B.

The Edmundston Police Force received a request to check on the well-being of a woman at an apartment building on Canada Road around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the responding officer was confronted by the woman, who was holding a knife and allegedly made threats. Police say the officer fired their weapon, injuring the woman. Efforts were made to resuscitate her, but she died at the scene.Investigators have not released any additional information about the incident, including what sort of threats the woman allegedly made.

“The Edmundston Police Force has requested the services of an independent agency to conduct a review of the incident to ensure police actions were appropriate and conform to policing standards,” said "As a matter of accountability and transparency for the independent review, the New Brunswick RCMP is providing investigative and forensic support.”

If an attacker lunges at me with a knife rest assured I’m shooting.

While a sad story I don't understand what else the officer could have done. Are we suggesting that if the police see someone with a weapon they should go back to the station and eat donuts?

Using the framing 'officer-involved shooting' is taking a stand on the side of cop-speak. It takes away responsibility for using violence/coercion. It takes out the verb involving police. Read - Police: A Field Guide. It's free right now

Murdered by a police officer. Say it properly.

So she threatened a police officer with a knife. I see no problem here.

If she died at the scene from being shot, why does this say the officer “injured” the woman? That makes no sense. The officer killed her.

Why is it the last line of defense seems to automatically be the first line these days?

In what way was the officer involved in the shooting?

How about posting a truthful headline! BC woman threatens attack to police in NB

Stop posting one liners when we don’t know details of what happened. You are instigating hate towards officers, when most of them are good and just doing their jobs.

When does the outrage, protesting and rioting begin? There was a couple of Shootings in Calgary last week, didn't see that on CTV National News or CBC National news. Yet this makes the news, why is that.
