B.C. will become the third province to introduce a so-called 'Netflix tax'

Last Updated Tuesday, February 18, 2020 6:39PM PSTVANCOUVER -- The B.C. government is following in the footsteps of Saskatchewan and Quebec and introducing what critics are labelling a "Netflix tax" on streaming services.

"As people have shifted to buying more and more goods and services online, legislation in many jurisdictions hasn't kept pace," the Ministry of Finance said in an email statement. Officials noted the companies that offer streaming services and have physical offices in Canada – including Apple and Amazon – are already collecting the tax from consumers.

What gives them the right to tax what people do online? Feels like governmental overreach

Bc will tax anything

And here comes the price increase. This country makes me sick.

BC taxes everything except their brains. Cause they don’t got none. Imbeciles.

Are they also going to tax amazon , Airbnb, Uber, disneyplus, etc? If small local business has to pay tax so should the big corporations.

So they take in close to 1B a year and the consumers are taxed

Dont use it

Why now tax the air we breath

It's Canada. Of course the government is introducing another new tax. It's the only thing our government does well...

BC stands for bring cash .

Another example of a province moving ahead, despite the inaction by JustinTrudeau's federal non-leadership.

Canada Sucks!!!

You earn the money and we will spend it.......................

I guess Netflix is like smoking now. They are taxing streaming to dissuade people to using it, because it is bad for your health. /s

BC NDP are doing a fine job.

Tax tax tax what ndp is good at

This is a payoff to the networks.

The beginning of the end for Netflix in Canada.

They keep electing the trash - so they must love the taxes.

The government's appetite for tax dollars is insatiable, and the populace is just livestock to feed this hunger. We wont get anything good out of the deal, but gov will keep bloating and wasting more money.

BC loves their taxes

Of course they are...
