One of the two arenas inside Summerside's Credit Union Place is now named after Gerard 'Turk' Gallant. - ContributedSUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — One of the two arenas inside Credit Union Place in Summerside is sporting a new name in honour of one of the city's hockey greats.
The newly named Gerard ‘Turk’ Gallant Arena operates adjacent to the Island Petroleum Energy Centre at Credit Union Place. Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart said having Gallant's name attached to the facility is an honour. “Turk’s illustrious playing and coaching career is remarkable and one that spans over roughly 34 years of involvement in the National Hockey League and counting,” said Stewart.Gallant, a Summerside native and now head coach of the NHL's New York Rangers, saw his hockey career start in the Summerside area minor hockey program.
