OTTAWA — Deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland suggested Wednesday that COVID-19 will keep her away from anti-racism marches planned across Canada in coming days.
Tensions have run high in several U.S. cities for days after George Floyd, a black man, died in police custody on May 25. A police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes, even as Floyd said he couldn’t breathe. The prime minister fell silent for several moments Tuesday when a reporter asked for his views on the crisis. He eventually said Canadians were watching in horror what was going on in the U.S., but did not mention Trump directly.Trudeau’s silence was deafening, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said Wednesday.
He called Trump’s actions reprehensible, accusing the president of inflaming hatred and divisions, fuelling racism and putting people’s lives at risk. “Those are just some of the things the government can do immediately that would go beyond the pretty words of a prime minister who says that he cares,” Singh said.

I find it ironic Jagmeet calls out the PM on not calling out Trump. Meanwhile he took no strong stance against Bill 21 during the election cause he really thought Quebecers would really vote for him (only 1 riding in Quebec). The hypocrisy just keeps getting better.

I was just at a march this evening in Kitchener. A few thousand people attended. It was peaceful. We tried our best to keep our distance, masks were mandatory, no exceptions! We were outdoors. The risk was minimal.
