Time for Conservatives to reckon with the message they were selling, which worked great in two provinces, but inadequately in the other eight

If Andrew Scheer and Justin Trudeau seem to have agreed on one thing—aside from the time of night on Monday to begin their post-election speeches—it’s that Alberta and Saskatchewan sent a loud, ornery message with their votes.

That message, of course, was sent through industrial-sized bucket loads of votes for the Conservatives in the two Western oil-producing provinces, though one Edmonton NDP seat was the exception in a 47-seat sea of Sask-berta blue. So Scheer reasonably felt like he ought to harness that anger, somehow.“We will fight for you,” he said. “We will do everything we can to make sure this Liberal government understands it has to change its course.

From the way Scheer spoke of how his team would sift through the results to determine where they fell short, one wonders if they’re hoping to find that the only problem was a lack of solid ground game, having fought this election without the help of Jenni Byrne, Harper’s accomplished get-out-the-vote general.

Damage was done by Harper and people from the east do not trust Conservatives... They will need to be talking openly about their plans to earn our trust again, something Scheer failed to do.

Soooooo true. They are so negative so uncollarative. A shadow on the Canadian political scene.

He only seems to know how to criticize without coming up with ways to solve a problem. He will do well as an opposition type.

Toronto & a few small locales on the east coast determined the Canadian election! something is terribly wrong with that.

This election was the Cons to lose. Trudeau was weak going in. A platform focused on climate change and economics, and less mud slinging and they'd have wrapped this up. Maybe also disavow Ford cuts. Oh heck, that makes them Liberals. NM

Yeah. Didn't do anything to appeal to the under 30 set.

Andrew Scheer must resign and take his archaic beliefs with him

Lets not and say we did .. What we need is a wall ..

IMHO, Canadians are more or less immune to American-style gutter politics. Attack ads don't work very well. Except for those in need of confirmation bias. A party that doesn't have a policy platform as a way of dodging criticism, but uses attack ads instead, is wasting its venom.

They should ditch Scheer and bring in Peter MacKay. He’s be much better. Solid last name too.

Demographics show Conservative Party can no longer be elected. See Milton Ontario.

Those provinces should form their own country.

Matt Gurney: The first question that needs an answer — what happens to Andrew Scheer?Scheer will point to the various things that look good for the party, and say he’s earned the right to stay on. Some pessimists may ask if a different leader would have done better He won’t win next time either, put someone new in. Canada needs a strong leader. Unfortunately JustinTrudeau, AndrewScheer, and theJagmeetSingh are not those leaders. Can he just... go away and stop doing politics? I’m sure he would be good at something else.
