In a letter to Ottawa and the Ontario government, Air Canada, WestJet and Toronto's Pearson International Airport called for a shift of testing capacity from airports to the community.
"There is a growing discrepancy between resources allocated to asymptomatic travellers and to those who need it most."As COVID-19 cases have surged in recent weeks, many provinces have decided to restrict molecular testing to those at a higher risk of being hospitalized from COVID-19 or who are in settings where the virus could spread more quickly.
You may as well open up EVERYTHING to EVERYONE! SURPRISE, guidelines dont work and not many following them anyway, we have every new variant before officially found, no media actually holds those most accounable & vaccines not preventing spread, so why the show, what's the point?
How about closing the airports for a few weeks until the covid numbers drop? We can't go to restaurants, get our hair done, go to gyms or go to church where we wear masks and social distance but it's ok to board a plane and be seated like sardines! I don't see the sense in that
Nope
Pre-departure testing just a money grab. What does it really prove? You get tested upto 72 hours beforehand, you can then get COVID and travel on a plane infecting others - that’s how’s it spread globally in the first place! Blind leading the blind!
Okay you promise to get tested when you get home right...promise...😂😂😂🖕
Solve the problem, stay home.
I can test POS on a take-home antigen test in Can now, not qualify for testing at AHS, and will have no documentation for a “PCR test” exemption when flying to Can from USA on a trip within the next 180 days. Adopt the USA rules. Antigen test within 24hr of return flight to Can
This whole testing is just useless as with many of the government policies these days.
I am vaxxed and had a negative pcr test before travel. I have been quaranting for 5 days now because the arrival test results are still not ready and i cant leave the house. What about people who have to work in an office? There is no logic to this whatsoever 👎
Tell airlines to fuck themselves
You bring them you tests them ..period !
Did we forget about our rights under the PHIPA. And PIPA, we r losing our rights, am I wrong
I generally favour stronger restrictions to deal with COVID, but this is 100% the right move. There’s so much COVID within Canada right now that it’s foolish to think we’re making progress by trying to stop infected travellers.
It was supposed to be for four weeks. Travel industry will need more bailouts if it continues…
How hard wld it be to shift this testing to schools?
While communities are now testing less than ever? Yah that makes sense. Come on JustinTrudeau please don’t let big business make every decision.
It is astonishing that there are still people who associate travel with Covid spread now that Omicron has ripped through every corner of the globe. The travel narrative is over, the game has changed.
Agree 💯. Airlines should not be required to do this. This needs to be the responsibility of Airport Authorities! This is a safety and security issue therefore needs to be conducted by A higher authority! Airlines are businesses and their bottom line is profit - Not Enforcement
No!! And no!! Non-essential traveling is still not recommended!!
Yeah right then the cycle will start again!!
I am sorry but we have to slow the spread and the variants are imported. My mom has been isolated in her room since Dec 25 and have just found out 10 more days. If travelers followed the rules we would not be as deep in the mess we are in!
Air Canada is always looking for new ways to download costs onto others, while burning profits on share buybacks and boosting executives’ bonuses.
Don't travel it's not safe right now
This makes sense. Delayed results are causing havoc in ppls lives.
Common sense ideas Where have these been all this time.
