AFN national chief calls for calm on Wet'suwet'en crisis, rail blockades cdnpolI

National Chief Perry Bellegarde is telling reporters in Ottawa that governments and industry have to give the time and space to work with the Wet'suwet'en people.

Since the RCMP moved in to enforce an injunction and keep the hereditary chiefs and their supporters away from the pipeline worksites, protests by Indigenous people and supporters have shut down the CN rail network in eastern Canada, suspended most Via Rail passenger service, and temporarily blocked traffic on streets and bridges and at ports in multiple cities."We say we want to de-escalate and we want dialogue," he says.

Other chiefs speaking alongside Bellegarde suggest it may be time to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion and bring down the blockades.

I dont know if it's fake but I was reading that majority of the first nations reserves support it but city people are the 1s protesting like cunts

Everyone should protest with hereditary chiefs, once bc gov can sell gas to china Vancouver/Victoria will be forced to use Hydro for heat at a cost 300% more than it cost today in order to pay for Site C boondoggle, protest now stop pipeline imo

Please allow illegal blockades to cripple the Canadian economy and cause shortages of essential services and supplies. And oh BTW here's my latest $10- billion class action lawsuit against Canadian taxpayers. Happy Indigenous Reconciliation!

It’s time for this Chief to step down from his soap box and end his divisive political actions, he forgets that when our economy is broken by their tactics, revenues will no doubt end to First Nations! That means more hardship for FN and all Canadians!

20 elected Aboriginal councils affected by the pipeline have approved the pipeline. Some people think they're so morally superior they don't have to follow the law and court orders. Expect more groups to ignore the law if nothing is done.

20 elected Aboriginal councils affected by the pipeline have approved the pipeline. Apparently mob rule prevails in Canada. Hereditary chiefs represent no one except themselves. Some people think they're so morally superior they don't have to follow the law and court orders.

Just asking.......Why not put pipeline on hold for week or two. Barricades come down. Then conversation to deal with just the people involved in BC. Anyone know why that cannot happen? Seems simple approach. Trains would move.

He’s the governments puppet, he’s no chief of ours, he’s a pipeline supporter.

All you trolls know that inciting violence on other groups of people are called Terrorists, Canadians are calling for violence on Indigenous Nations and its rather disgusting

This is ridiculous! Law enforcement agencies need to be allowed to do their job and remove the protesters! Canadians have been more than tolerant!

Bellegarde knows Trudeau and the Liberals are exactly what he wants in power.

Send in the RCMP and enforce the law.

Forget the calm end the Blockade!

Read here & there the Wet'suwet'en chiefs/people voted in favor of the pipeline...So in short who the phuk do other Canadians think they are including other Native Canadians to determine whats good or not good for Wet'suwet'en Canadians who held a democratic vote on the matter!

Perry is nothing more than a bottom feeding leech......

Call for an end?

A lot easier to do if the MSM stopped allowing every self serving low life and NGO to insert their personal and ideological goals into the mix It's condescending to Canada's First Nations and has absolutely nothing to do with the real issues which need to be addressed
