Police investigating break-in after man dragged, injured as pickup is stolen in Mount Pearl late Saturday night

MOUNT PEARL, N.L. — Police are investigating an apparent break-in to a Mount Pearl residence that sent one man to hospital late Saturday night.  

Shortly before 11 p.m., RNC officers received a call for assistance at a residence on Leger Crescent.  

On arrival, officers found an injured man outside the home.  

The victim was taken to hospital for serious injuries believed to be non-life threatening. 

Through investigations, officers learned that the victim’s residence was broken into and his vehicle, a white 2018 GMC Sierra was stolen.  

Police said the man was injured by the suspects during the incident.  

At the scene, the Telegram received information that the man attempted to stop the theft when the culprit drove the truck out of the driveway at high speed, dragging the owner in the process and crashing into a car on the street.  

The driver was dragged about 70 meters around a corner before being thrown to the ground onto a nearby lawn after the truck hit a curb and a street sign. 

The car that was struck suffered significant damage. 

On Dec. 4, before 4 a.m. officers found the stolen truck in the New Pennywell Road area in St. John's. 

The investigation is ongoing and police believe multiple suspects were involved. 

Police said all suspects wore dark clothing and were masked. 

RNC are seeking any information that may assist the investigation, including observed suspicious activity, dash camera footage or CCTV in the following areas: 

  • Leger Cres, Mount Pearl between the hours of 10:30 p.m. Dec. 3 until midnight December 3.
  • New Pennywell Road, St. Johns and surrounding roads between the hours of 11:30 pm Dec. until 3:30 am Dec. 4.

One man suffered multiple injuries after he was dragged and thrown from his own vehicle as it was allegedly being stolen late Saturday night.

The incident happened on Leger Crescent in Mount Pearl at about 11:45 p.m. when, according to several witnesses, the man apparently confronted the perpetrator stealing his truck from his driveway.

He attempted to stop the theft when the culprit drove the truck out of the driveway at high speed, dragging the owner in the process and crashing into a car on the street.

The truck’s owner was dragged about seventy metres around a corner where he was then thrown to the ground onto a nearby lawn after the truck struck a curb and a street sign.

The car that was struck suffered significant damage.

When the Telegram arrived on scene, the RNC had the road closed and were seen speaking to residents and witnesses.

The man was conscious and speaking with first responders and his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
