Food delivery giants Deliveroo and Uber Eats are giving customers the option of zero-contact' food dropped at the door, as they come under pressure over the commission charged to restaurants.

A spokesperson for Uber Eats said there had always been an option within its app for customers to request drivers leave a delivery at the door but it was working on new product features to make the process smoother.

Ms Valent said she expected delivery operators were seeing a huge spike in business but said restaurant and cafe owners were "freaking out". "During these challenging times, our focus is on ensuring restaurants can continue to trade and that the Australian public can still order from local restaurants - supporting the local economy and assisting those that are in self-isolation," a spokesperson for Deliveroo said.

Shelves might be bare, but here's why Australia isn't running out of foodEmpty supermarket shelves have become a common sight in the past few weeks — but retail, agricultural and economic experts are urging everyone to calm the farm. The manufacturing of food in Australia isn't broken - the common sense of people is.
