Pay is generally based on where you live, salaries in big cities are higher because cost of living is higher. When people can work from anywhere, this equation changes. We've seen this with offshoring, but it will get a lot worse now that many more people work from home.

Why should one's pay be cut? Working from home relieves the employer of significant costs and also allows the employer to choose from a greater pool of skills in selecting staff. The employees will be more productive and loyal.

Why do I, theoretically, have to take a pay cut? With everyone working from home, the office is saving on maintenance, utilities, equipment, etc. I’m even using my own computer and paying for my wifi, while accomplishing the same job I’ve always done.

Hubby’s work got rid of the office so there’s no going back to the office for him. They now don’t pay gas, electric, cleaning, insurance, coffee, parking for employees etc etc. Oh and we have had to buy desk, chair, heater, fan, printer etc etc.
