Working from home is here to stay long after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the federal government's key economic adviser, with a new report suggesting some people might even take a pay cut to remain in their home office.

The percentage of Australians working from home has jumped from 8 per cent to 40 per cent in the past two yearsIn future, employers and workers are expected to negotiate mutually beneficial arrangements

Commission chair Michael Brennan told AM the swift change in the way we worked would remain a feature of our working life, even after the COVID-19 crisis was over. The way we work will also be somewhere in between, with the report finding while most workers enjoy their home office, they do not want to spend their entire time there because there are reduced opportunities for collaboration and potential long-term career consequences.

"A hybrid model is tending to emerge as the model that many workplaces are gravitating towards because it combines the best of a bit of physical interaction with some of the flexibility from working from home some of the time," Mr Brennan said.

Why would that even be a question?

employers better stop barking up this tree.

why a pay cut?

NO. Nor should anyone

no, i want a pay increase since now im using my own electricity, internet and space.

My well-adjusted employer gave us bonuses to cover additional costs related to work from home. Why would I take a pay cut to work from home?

would you ,Ita?

No

Why? The operation budget is already low with so many employees working from home for months. So what's with the pay cut?

The way I will resign so quickly if that was ever said to me lmao

It’s the same amount of work but in a different space isn’t it

Add this to the list of hack articles written to try and scare and manipulate people back in to the office.

You should get raise to work from home. Saving the company money!

Yes Would I start looking for a new job? Also yes.

They’re not paying to light & heat my office space. They’re not paying a cleaner to clear around my desk. My work related carbon footprint is zero. And I don’t feel like I need to sit on the toilet with my phone for 20 minutes, because it’s easier when working at home.

Are you dumb, of course not! I am still doing the same job, accomplishing the same task, and providing the same benefits. Cut my pay and I would get a job some place else.

A raise! The employer saves on real estate, utilities furniture etc While the employee pays for all that plus has to handle interruptions and yet be productive. We miss our colleagues etc. A raise is definitely in order.

If anything, we should be paid more for working from home. Using our equipment and utilities, saving on office rent, etc.

you're STILL doing the same damn job---just different location. Location changes not the stress/deadlines/working commitment.

How about a pay raise for working from home? I am way more productive at home than I am at the offfice

“Would you accept wage theft?”

Dumb ass question

Are you fucking kidding me? Why would I take a pay cut FOR ANY REASON?

Would work at home, but with no pay cut

lol

I took a pay raise to keep working from home 😂

Can I interest you in a new, highly reputable report on the topic?

Why a pay cut? You saving the company on electric, water, space rental etc?

PLEASE DONATE‼️ Hey, my family back in Haiti has been struggling ever since the earthquake hit. It’s been over a month and we’ve lost 3 family members and have been struggling since! PLEASE HELP US‼️‼️

Why would I take a pay cut to cost my organization less money?

No. My increased productivity is already a bonus to my employer

Are the employers going to cut their prices? No? They are going to increase them? How about having a regular wage that is current, people who commute or go in get a bonus for doing so, what a concept!

Tell me your are corporate propaganda without telling me you are corporate propaganda.

I think it’s both unfair and unethical; I wrote about it for Index:

What a stupid question 😌 are people still not doing the same work?

Don't be silly....are we still not working?

Should employers pay rent & untitled for use of their employees' home office & infrastructure?

*raise

Listen if you want me to pay less for blow jobs at home, then that's your loss lady.

No, they should pay me more.

A pay raise!

Nope. If anything you are saving the company money by working from home (building rental, electricity, security, other overhead expenses).

POOR PEOPLE PROBLEMS AMIRIGHT? HAHAHHAHAHAHA NOT ME I JERK OFF AND PLAY VIDEO GAMES ALL DAY

In a heartbeat.

If they pay my rent, Internet and electricity bills. I would sign the contract immediately

No🙄

NO, YOU SHOULD BE PAYING YOUR REMOTE WORKERS ***MORE*** BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE TO OCCUPY AS MUCH OFFICE SPACE

Lmao what the actual fuck, pay cut because we are more efficient at home ? Fuck no

If anything the company owes me for rent of office space. The angle of these headlines is how you can tell that ABC serves investors, not people.

Would you pay me to give me head?

Suuuure, who needs roof over their heads and food on the table anyway, right? Awesome idea!

What a pile of shit. Just like us paying for the “benefit” of using an ATM. Banks save millions with no tellers. Companies save billions with less office space.

They should I'd love to work from home I'm over all the dirty xunts not wearing masks spitting all over the ground and just putrid people who work in the industrial area I'm in

Nope. Pay the full amount as stipulated in my work contract!

Why a pay cut Seriously Employer is saving on rent, electricity, equipment, OH&S, HR......

I would take a pay cut to keep working in office 🤨

No. Just because the employee isn't paying more overhead from their own bank accounts doesn't mean you greedy bastards should be able to shave off the top. If exploiting workers for having a better lifestyle at no cost to the employer ain't greedy I do not know what is.

Yes. In fact I did and after I bought a Mac book pro and office equipment I actually make more money considering how much I save on gas not to mention the time it takes to get to and from work if you average the hours into my work hours. I now have more time in my day to myself.

Impossible but hell no. People need to get out and socialize

Yes. You find a way for me to fix apartment buildings from home and we have a deal! I’ll happily sign up for push button toilet unclogging. Toilet drone?

Why should they? If anything, employers are saving money on facility use (utilities, rent, internet, etc), and the employees are having to *pay more* out of pocket. WFH should be paid MORE, not less.

The headline isn’t even good question design to test the underlying concept. I’m sick of editors doing this edge lord stuff.

Would you fuck the fuck off?

This is surely is paid propaganda. I’ve been doing this since 2007 and it has never impacted my pay. Tell your patrons to try harder,

Nope. Working from home costs me more than being in the office and saves my company money at the same time. I should have a pay rise for working from home.

No. If they suggested it, I would leave.

I’d have to be paid more to go back to an office.

Make lessmoney, pay more on eletricity bill, using space not properly built for work.

Did you?

Should your employer pay for your time travelling to and from your place of employment Should they reimburse you for the utilities you pay for doing the job, often for longer hours than in the office because people are slogging their guts out

If companies wanted to keep some employees coming into the office, why not rearrange the space for daycare?

Fuck no

no

No

I’m under what HUD considers “low income” for SF. I can’t afford to move, couldn’t afford rents elsewhere even if I could, and have no savings. I can only afford my current place because it’s illegal and cheap. A pay cut would put me on the street, and eventually out of work.

Maybe, if they paid my gas, electricity & broadband.

Since I actually know my value as an employee, absolutely not. I'll keep working from home and I'll keep making what I'm worth. If my employer doesn't like it I'll find one that does.

No

A pay cut to allow my employer to save money on rent… er, no

Why would I need to take a pay cut in that scenario? They're saving in overhead and operational costs so they should pay me more.

No... and it's fucking insulting to even suggest it.

No. I'm not lining my employer with more money on my behalf.

I’ve been working from home since March 2020. Haven’t noticed my company offering to pay me for my electricity, internet, drinking water, work space…

No I'll take the same or more money or they can pound sand

That's stupid! Why would a pay cut be needed? A company saves $ on resources with at home employees. They should get a raise for working from home.

No

no

No, they should be paying us more since we have to provide everything ourselves.

Paycuts for working from home are inherently ableist.

Would you?!?

Fuck no

The office saves money and somehow I should get a paycut? What?

WHY THE HELL WOULD ANYONE TAKE A PAY CUT TO SAVE THEIR COMPANY MONEY?!

Fuck no. They gotta pay more AND do work from home.

Betteridge's Law of Headlines: No.

If I’m employed to make 100 widgets per day and I make that quota, it doesn’t matter where I do it. An employer scrimping pennies this way values perceived work, not actual work.

I'll take a pay cut when I get a rent cut.

I would accept a pay raise for working from home and saving the company money. When Offered a pay cut I will apply for another job.

Bullshit like this is why nobody trusts the media anymore. It’s obvious that you’re working directly against he public interest in order to make rich people richer.

Hell no. Depending on the environment at the office I might go in for a raise though.

Would be 100% pay cut, eventually, am curious who will try. Damned if I'd stay even if I ended up in another co's office. Remember when I spent my own $$ 18 months ago and counting to set myself up and be able to work with literally no downtime? Your profit line remembers

No. This wifi isn't free. Neither is this laptop... or printer... electrical bill, heating bill, mortgage payment...

I'm saving them money on rent, heating, cooling, any sort of snacks or food as well as medical costs by not bringing illness into the work group. THEY OWE ME MORE.

Hell no! I work on my internet I pay for. This is a stupid question! They should pay fair in the first place.

Gimmee more pay, less hours and a job that isn't a pointless waste of my life

Just stop.

absolutely not.

Nope. No way, no how. If someone does the same amount of work they deserve the same amount of pay. Besides, the business saves money on electricity, water usage, and other things when people work remotely.

Would the CEO take a pay cut to work from home?

no, but I would take a raise for being expected to come back to the office. oh and I should get a raise to cover my internet and such if I work from home. basically just give me a raise

No.

Does my company want a reduction in productivity? Fuck no.

No.

no

'New IT Policy: For added security, your secondary password is the lowest salary at which you'd continue working. Thank you for keeping us safe! - The Mgmt'

This question is deranged.

I expect a raise to cover my home office, computer equipment, heat, electricity, WiFi and coffee. Thanks.

I have a better idea. How about a retroactive pay raise to compensate for the bedroom that's been transformed into a company office?

The only time in my life I was able to do my job with no distractions or interpersonal bullshit? I’m homeless. I work from wherever the hell I am.

Actually, they should get more. They are using their home and utilities, plus they are now working even more.

No, but companies can save money by firing all the middle managers whose only function is to harass workers and lead meetings in the office.

Gotohell

Like I would understand this in case of some specific industries like animation or video games where working from homes does introduce coordination difficulties, but in most office jobs wfh *boosts* or retains productivity. Absurd.

'journalism'

If anything, I should get a pay increase since I'm not taking up office space, money, or resources.

What kind of dumb question is this? Working from home saves the company money — they no longer have to maintain office overhead — and shifts costs onto the employee, such as increased electricity and/or internet usage. Work from home jobs should pay *more*, not less.

I think they should give people raises and then everyone should quit anyways.

they literally save money by not needing to rent an office, pay for air conditioning, buy furniture, etc. pay us more with the money saved, fuck that

We already don't get paid to travel back and forth to work. So, why would you take a pay cut?

No.

Fuck no mate what reason would there be to take a pay cut?

Should employers pay people extra to work from home?

Would you take a pay cut to stop writing these corporate bootlicking articles?

no

I'd find a new job (that's exactly what I did)

The part about pay cut is a marketing tool to put in the media to get everyone used to the idea and make it acceptable. Gotta love social engineering.

Businesses who signed leases of 20-50 years are really pushing this propaganda now that they’re stuck with overhead costs they can no longer truthfully justify, but that they’re unwilling or unable to break.

No.

Wrong messaging. Companies save tons of money having people with desk jobs work from home. They should pay employees more for for that.

No. That’s dumb and any company considering this should immediately be put out of business.

No, and my friend just got offered double to do so. Stop suggesting otherwise.

I’d pay to stop garbage like this question

is the cost of living going to magically go down as well

Why would an employer pay less when working from home saves them money?

bitch yes i'd suck someones dick

For the amount companies save by not having to maintain an office and shifting costs onto employees (electricity, office space, heat/ac), they should be paying employees MORE to work from home.

No. Why should anyone take a paycut for doing their job?

I’m saving my office rent, maintenance and cleaning fees, electricity, water, etc etc by working at home. I would actually take a pay cut if I was back in the office because it would cost me several hundred dollars a month just to commute. Working from home is a win-win.

No, and I'd also like my wages that have been stolen since Reagan back as well.

No. Why should my being remote lessen my value? Surely they can increase my pay; less office overheads.

Absolutly not what kind of clown show are you people getting at? Who's paying you?

Deranged

No. I should get a raise to work from home.

Will I be paid for my commute if I go back in?

Why take a pay cut when you are literally saving the company $1000s a year by not consuming resources at the office? End stage capitalism is the fucking worst.

Consent manufacturing machine go brrrr

So corporations would issue back pay for everyone who commuted in the past?

Why is that even a question? Teleworking SAVES money for companies.

We need to change the concept. WFH is an EXPENSE for the worker. Supplies and such need to be tax-deductible at least, like with some commuting expenses.

I haven't been compensated for having my employer basically take over an entire floor of my house and relegate my family to their bedrooms to not interrupt my meetings. So no.

No. I am working from home for full salary

No. How about a pay raise for providing office space, electricity, internet connection, router, firewall, etc?

How about the business hands out raises to cover rent, heating and food that they've saved through not paying their own rent..?

Why should anyone have to? Their employers benefit in a number of ways (lower utility use, smaller premises required etc.) while those costs are transferred to the employee. If anything, home-workers should get paid more.

Oh, yeah, I'd love to make less than min. wage. I'm sure that the cost of living/rent/utilities and everything else would just go down ever so kindly to accommodate this decrease in pay. I'm sure that my rich employers love the idea though. pay me even less. sign me up for that.

So your employer doesn’t have to pay rent to a space for you to work in… and they want to pay you less? Sounds like late-stage capitalism to me!

I think there are valid reasons to cut the pay of employees who move to lower cost regions after going remote, your wage does reflect your cost of living. Which is much higher in e.g. the bay area

Why would you get less pay for saving the company money from them having to buy/rent office space….

The absolute state of this headline

What does the company do with the extra cash that they now do not need to spend on overheads ? decrease the bottom line and pay bonuses to the executives right Some gall to keep pushing for executives to get higher payouts.

No. Given you're saving the company money in lease/rent, power, and more, they oughtta give me a raise.

Why should you?! You’re still doing the same amount of work. They’re not paying you for your commute. In fact they should pay you MORE, as you’re using your own electricity, water etc while working for them!!

No.

If they’re still doing the same work they should get the same pay.

No. In fact, we're making more. Our company has found productivity and revenues have not only held, but increased with the move to WFH. Returning to the office will be optional for majority of positions. This has also improved our overhead expenditures and what was once, an 1/3

NO. Work From Home should pay more, not less. Extra expenses like high speed internet, air conditioning or heating, electricity and more are taken on by the worker.

No. Nor should anyone else.

Why should we be taking a cut? We’re still doing the same job we’re hired to do

No

No WTF is wrong with you

No, but I would take a raise to keep working from home and keep saving my company money on equipment, electricity, wifi, heating, AC, office rent and other resources!

You're joking right?! We weren't paid for the time we were on the tram. We are paid for our work output, seems that this has shown that businesses overwhelmingly get at least the same output and in many cases more. Maybe they should pay us more to WFH then?

I should get paid more obviously since my employer will be saving money.

FUCK YOU

Will you cut your advertising rates because everyone has less money to buy consumer goods?

Never

You mean, where I can work without having to take time off if I’m mildly sick or have to take time off because my kids have colds? Where I pay for my own office equipment and wi-fi? Where I can be more productive because Heather isn’t yapping my ear off about bullshit? Um, no.

No. Not unless my company started paying for the space I use to work, the power I consume while working, the supplies etc. I’m saving my company thousands by working from home and a pay cut is the opposite of what’s owed.

Nope. In fact pay me more. Im saving you money by not going into the office and statistically providing more output. 2 net gains. So cash me in

Nice clickbait.

No. This does not make sense. Now tell (and show all the replies ) to the boomers stakeholders/ceos that are asking this.

How fucking much are you getting paid at the ABC? What a preposterous question.

Why on earth would you?

Why? I add at least as much value working from my home

employer should pay to rent my home office.

I'd take a paycut for ABC News to stop existing

Ah, this is less a proposal and more recognizing that people with a choice between going into an office + making more $ and taking a lesser $ role that is wfh are choosing the latter. But at that point, you're already talking about highly-paid people, so the $ isn't vital.

We should be paid more to work at home: we are paying for office space and utilities, never mind that out workdays have crept longer and longer bc we don't have a commute or train to catch.

They should pay me more to work at home. I'm paying for the overhead then.

no i’d quit and find a better paying job to keep working from home

I’ve worked from home for 5 years, so no…

Nobody would take a pay cut to work from home nor would anyone take a pay cut to work in the office. Nobody would take a pay cut to do the job they already have.

Why in the world should pay be cut when teleworking employees saves employers money?

What companies pay employees to commute? What rational reason is there to take a pay cut?

Did an asshole write the headline? Or the whole 'article'?

Would my employer take a profit cut to help pay for my increased utility expenses, for some of those utilities being a job requirement, and for the stress of literally having no work/home separation?

lol

Don’t you mean a raise since the employer will have reduced overhead and will naturally want to share the wealth?

absolutely fucking not

Why - I woke longer hours and produce more work now that I am not trapped in the car for 2 Hours.

No. The employer is realizing a cost savings and should pass it on to the employees in the form of wage increases

Fuck no.

What for? They can pay us the same to be happier while we work

A pay cut? They should give me a raise.

No, go fuck yourself. I prefer living under candles, taking baths in the river and eating squirrels than working for peanuts.

Sure, if they pay off my student loans and get my landlord to reduce the rent

they should pay u more

No, but I'll take a pay raise for saving the company money on rent, heat, airconditioning, bandwidth, etc.

You should get a pay rise for not contributing to the cost of running an office.

Why would I when a huge amount of costs transfer to me from the business?

Love the word 'keep' in the headline. 'You've been doing all your contractually-obligated duties. How do you feel about still doing that, but for less money? How would you feel about working more for less? HR would like you to take this survey on indentured servitude.'

You gonna rent part of my house as office space?

No fuck you pay me

Capitalism always looking to revert to slave labor.

Equal to my annual transportation costs, yes. No more.

No! I pay for the space, internet, snacks, everything. If anything, they should be paying me!

Why should employees take a pay cut to save their employer money?

Why should people have to? If the work they do is still the same, they deserve same pay. If anything staying home saves the company money

Why, is my employer going to be paying for my commute now?

I’ll take a percentage of the CEO’s bonus to work from home

No. Next.

Would I take a pay cut to be more productive? No.

Lol no.

No, and I won't have to, either. Neither will the person who wrote this abusive headline.

I take an effective pay cut going back to the office with the cost of parking and gasoline or transit, plus I give up two hours of time I could be doing anything besides commuting. I lose money when I go back to the office, to the tune of a thousand dollars or so

As long as services cut their prices also So that would be a no then

See stu_kurtz

Why would I? My productivity at home is at least as high as it is in the office. In fact, I should probably be paid more to cover costs I pay for, like internet, cell phone. The question should be, why are office jobs still using an outdated model?

Let me correct this for you: “Work from home: If your boss had no overhead costs and higher profits, should he pay you even less? Will you at ABC Social Media desk give your Conde & Shell this message: “Boss, it’s not working. We forgot the peons can count.”

Whether a person works from home or place of work, their pay grade includes job duties, expectations and the knowldge of said position. Who would take a cut in their self worth? And what shitty employer would encourage this?

My company is going to lease out the office. Motherfuckers can pay me MORE.

'Would you agree to be stolen from?'

Why should anyone? Companies just can't stand that their employees are happy and more productive. Of course it will effect women first.

Is the person writing this article asking for advice for themselves?

Uh no. They’re saving money by not having to keep offices open.

Should workers charge their boss rent for use of their home office space?

No fck off

Who is asking this question: an employee or the employer class? My guess is, ABC News is speaking for the employer class.

Why ? They make more if I work from home. Smaller office means less expense. Rent/taxes, utilities, maintenance, furniture depreciation. Working from home is a bargain for them

Seems since they'll be saving so much $$$ on space, furniture, tech, supplies, etc, they should be giving every one a stipend each month to offset the sacrifices we make at home - better internet, cell usage, creating an office, etc.

People should be allowed to work from home without a paycut.

If they pay for part of my mortgage for the space I now use at home, part of my electricity, water, and gas, my internet, and any computer upgrades I need, then I would think about it.

There should be a pay raise, costs for business is vastly reduced and put on to the home. Property, power, interwebby etc.

ABC 'News' every time they publish trash like this:

What kind of nonsense is this? More robbery from employers is what this would be

Companies should pay part of the rent or mortgage for taking up space at home.

Nope. I have to pay me heating/cooling bill. And my company doesn’t need to rent space for me.

How does get fucked sound? I’ll keep my pay and work from home. I’m saving the company money doing this.

No. Want a raise though.

why would you take a pay cut? it doesn't cost them additional $ if you work from home.

*looks up what Multi billion dollar corporation owns ABC* Yup this tracks

Why should anyone take a pay cut to use their own heat, electricity, furniture and building to do their job?

lol

If anything, companies should increase pay for those working at home. The employee is footing the bill for office space, utilities, etc. that companies would then save money on. Laundering exploitation for companies isn’t a good look. Have some integrity.

So you're essentially asking 'now that you're saving your employer a bunch of money by taking on their electric, internet, and other costs, would you also pay your employer even more money for literally no reason' Really

No, pay us more before we all quit. Or give us stake in the company.

Employees are currently underpaid. Why would they take less money to not work in a hazardous environment, when they can safely work from home?

Why should workers get paid less if the company is getting the same level of output from the workers?

No. The company you work for, no longer having to pay for office space, should PAY YOU for using your home for their office.

I’ll take a raise. Bought a new computer, faster internet, & pay for overhead being home during the day. No hazard pay when on-site. You’re welcome economy. I’ll take a long overdue raise with bonus. The previous admin did away with many WFH tax write-offs in 2016. Another Grift

I work from home and I work night shift. In winter I need the heater and in summer air con. I have set up a dedicated office. The light and computer are on all night. I deal with emergencies. I should be paid more not less.

Fuuuuuuuuuuck no. This is stupid af to even put into the universe. Be better

No

You’re literally saving the company money by providing your own workspace and utilities. They should be paying more, not less.

All this says to me is that late stage capitalism is the worst.

Why in the world should there be a pay cut?

I’d take a pay raise, thank you very much.

Why should I?

Ever feel like you're being primed for something? This is straight up propaganda.

This feels like a rupertmurdoch backed poll. No

I find the idea highly offensive. No Enterprise Agreement has ever factored in cost of travel to work but now employers want to take that amount away.

Why should someone accept a pay cut when working from home already saves money for the employer?

Companies are already saving money with remote work, why would they cut pay too? lol no.

Will my employer pay part of my rent or mortgage for the spaced used for working from home? And my internet and phone costs?

Employers save LITERALLY millions on office space by downsizing or going full remote, and employees can only claim back depreciation of home office equipment, so if anything there should be pay rises for remote workers. But you're just a mouthpiece for property now huh 🤪

no and you shouldn’t even be asking this like it’s a viable option. Workers needs to make *more* money and get *more* flexibility.

Enjoy another “labor shortage” ❤️

My job should be paying me rent

Why should I?

Take a pay cut to turn part of my house into a permanent office? Of course not! I should get a raise for this.

No but we'll take some other cuts to make survival for we masses on this planet available without suffering. Just a little off the top, like 1%

How about a raise for paying for the “office” space‼️

Fuck no!

Take a pay cut so that the company can save money on rent and utilities?

You should be paid MORE! The company saves money on offices but now employees have to provide a workspace. Working remotely, financially, is rewarding for the company. Stop trying to normalize making it EVEN MORE rewarding for them and not the workers. Pay remote workers more.

we should 'cut' whoever fucking put up that idea

Curious that this hasn't been framed as 'should you receive a pay rise to continue working from home?' given that the cost of elevtricity, rent, insurance etc is offloaded to the employee.

No, Shirly you jest, and yes I called you Shirly!

America: where you should be happy just cause we let you exist. How about this: would you rather subsidize your employers cheaper real estate and lower tax burden by commuting or would you rather alleviate your employers commercial real estate costs by wfh?

No. I’m saving my employer electricity, Internet costs, phone line costs, and the cost of physical office space. For taking on those costs, I should be paid more, not less.

Nope. Same work, same schedule. My equipment & power being used. They can pay an extra sum for it.

No. While working from home, I used my own laptop, bought a monitor (they only allowed me to bring home 1 of 2), and bought better speakers. They didn't pay me for any of that, why should I pay them to continue?

No.

Did a employer who likes to underpay, and cut benefits for their employees write this?!

Fuck no, I'm the one paying for utulities now, I demand a fucking raise

Stupid, awful country work culture

Yeah fuck workers amiright

It should literally be the opposite.

We need to stop thinking pay is a reward for enduring misery and that any time work becomes less miserable people suddenly deserve less pay.

No, that shouldn't even be a thing. If they're keeping people WFH then people should get a raise to cover the costs of tech, electricity, etc. that an office would be paying instead. WFH pay cuts are just an attempt to shift costs of business from employers to employees.

FUCK NO

Absolutely not. If I'm working from home, my employer should at LEAST be subsidizing my internet and electricity bills.

Nope, and not going back to the office. Instead I demanded a raise and got it.

No

We should be getting more money for rent of our own dwellings for a business that we don't own

Why does the worker always have to be the one to give something up? Stop enabling those at the top at the expense of us at the bottom. Wake up. Things are changing. Try to keep up, since you're a 'news' outfit.

Hell no

Why? We had work at home before the pandemic going back over 10 years. The company used to pay for business internet service -not anymore. My employer no longer needs to rent extra space-all in office people can fit in one building.

Oh HELL NO. And I'm not going back to the office either. This is capitalist propoganda and it's disgusting.

Suck my fat cock. I hope the person who wrote this gets a pay cut

We're paying more out of pocket and saving companies money. Why would this even be a serious question?

No but you should

Only after getting back pack for having had worked in an office for the last entirety of my career.

Pay for my electricity, chair, desk, heating, internet and water you deeply disturbing potatoes

It cost more if you included utilities.

You should get a raise

So let me get this straight. I’m saving the company overhead costs by not requiring a maintained office space yet I have to take a pay cut to do my same job? Get lost with this notion

I’d take a fucking raise for it

No.

No

Absolutely not. Why should I have to?

Absolutely not enough of this garbage. I should be getting paid MORE because my employer no longer has to spend the money on office space.

No I absolutely would not. They expect me to work more now that I don't have a commute and the lines between work and home have blurred. I paid for everything in my workspace except for the computer they gave me. They should pay me more

Sure, I’ll take a bit less in salary — and I’ll also charge my employer rent and utilities, demand full reimbursement for cell and wifi, and additional time and mileage charges for when my employer says they actually need me at the office. It’ll be great.

No. Corporations are saving a ton of money not paying as much rent and paying for all the in office perks. Last time I checked employees are in demand so no way. Thankfully my employer hasn't gone in this direction.

No? I’d take a pay raise for saving my company money on office space

IBM closes offices to save money and now this question is getting asked? Hmmmm sounds like y'all just want any reason to not pay for labor

I can’t w this bullshit

OMG YES

Why would I take a pay cut? Am I working less hours? You should probably take a pay cut for asking stupid questions.

We're not doing this

Wtf is up with all these terrible “how can capitalism fck you over even more than it already is” hot takes?

No. I’m gonna need some money to keep my internet connection going, since I’m going to let my company use it for 40 hours a week. On the other hand, they can finally get rid of all the fax machines. Nobody’s used them for two years.

wfh saves employers money, workers should be payed *more*

No, a raise!! They should be paying me more for saving money because I'm NOT use company space, equipment, supplies, electricity, phone, and internet.

The fuck are you talking about? They deserve pay increases to keep working from home

How about a pay raise for providing the infrastructure and equipment to do my job?

People were murdered by the state just to get the shitty work conditions we have now Now 40 hours is working back to 50 hours, the pay never changes but the work load always increases. This is not a conversation of workers needing to sacrifice more: we've given too much already

you should get compensation for your internet from your employer if you're going to work from home.

No, stop acting like employers are doing their employees a fucking favor

Why should employees be paid LESS for taking on the overhead cost of daily business? The question should be 'with the death of the workplace, are employers even necessary?'

Fuck no.

Buy me all the stuff I Need to have to work from home effectively and also give me a raise to do those things.

I already did. And it’s totally worth it.

A pay cut, while we pay for our own equipment, office supplies, internet and utilities and dedicate space in our homes to their profit? How about we just GeneralStrike instead?

I would take a pay cut if economic advisers would shut the hell up.

My wife save 14 hours of commuting working from home. She gets her job done as she did before and often enough, she's up at night doing something work related. Pay cut? It was enough that the standard raises didn't happen. Pay cut? Were our bills cut?

No. fkoff.

No one should have to do this

HAHA no gfy propagandists

Hell no. That means I'm using my personal resources to benefit a corporation who would let me go in a heart beat. Fuck that!

Can I steal all the office supplies from work that I will need before I take that pay cut? I mean, you're saving a shitload of cash for free, I might as well be able to steal from you in return.

Does that mean that the CEOs will take pay cuts? 🤗

'This post was sponsored by rich people!'

No but I'd take a pay cut to just never work again.

No but I'll take a raise for saving the company on the overhead office expense.

no

Nope. I’m saving my employer the expense of maintaining a workspace and resources for me and absorbing the cost myself. I should get a raise, not a pay cut.

ABC out here trying to put seeds in people's heads that their labor is worth less because it's done in their home and not in an office. That argument is so old and stolen from the idea domestic work isn't work

Nah I want a raise for using my computer

No, but I'll take a raise.

Am I doing less work? Then no.

this is an incredibly stupid headline

seems like they should be leasing part of my office space, and copping for part of my internet and electrical bills, instead. or do employers want to freeload?

Oh you floating this idea for your board of directors or what.

why should the pay be cut if the work is still getting done or is it that employers consider the commute time to be theirs but haven't been paying employees for it

how about i quit instead

No. I’ll take compensation for my energy, internet and phone usage though.

On one hand, why should I take a pay cut? On there other hand, I’ll have fewer employer choices if I will only work remotely. Then on the other hand, employers don’t have enough skilled workers to choose from. So who knows. I’ll probably get another job with a pay raise.

I demand a raise in fact

They should pay us more to save them the money on an office. Capitalism is garbage lol

Should you take a pay cut for posing such a 'shit take' of a question?

Why not a raise on all the money they save ?

This is a very American question. Never ever stop looking for profit.

If I was paid more to WFH, of course. No rational person takes a pay cut.

You should get a raise because your boss is saving on office space rent, utilities, supplies, etc

Why a cut?

How about we get paid more for coming into the office and having to put up with bathroom lines and coworkers saying shit like 'livin' the dream?' Where's that poll at?

I pay to maintain my own office Wouldn’t that already be a pay cut?

We should get a raise from what the company is saving in physical plant and a tax deduction for using our home in service of the company.

Fuck no!

Why should you? Aren't companies saving money when you work from home?

No. I don't want to work from home. When home, I want to NOT work.

It’s the same work done in an office. Why do they want to pay you less if your using your own wifi and computer!? It’s pay or lose your workers now! payup

Ridiculous. Since I’ve increased productivity for my company by working from home, they can give me a raise and pay some of my utilities.

I'm saving the company thousands of dollars a year by not going into an office. They should pay me more money.

Hell no. No one should. You're paid for doing work, not driving.

When I work from home, my employer almost always gets an extra hour of work while I save on a two hour daily commute. I don't charge for 5+ extra high performance hours. Should I, along with office rent and parking?

why should you, the company saves money on offices space and amenities and you still perform the same job. Basically you save on commute costs, just to give back it to the greedy companies, whilst paying your own electric and heating etc. No way!!!

Considering working from home brings down costs for the employer and according to almost every study for the last year, raises productivity, this seems like an absurd question.

We never got paid more for a longer commute so why would we get paid less for less commute?

Nope.

No.

You should be paid more. Stop writing this shit and trying to make it seem valid

no, eat shit

Stop running Oligarch talking points FFS

Easy way to lose your top performers

From article :In future, employers and workers are expected to negotiate mutually beneficial arrangements. Like, I do work for you, you pay me fairly? That's happening today.

What a suggestion. Has a worker's LABOR changed as the deciding factor on wages? No? And now that the worker provides space, energy, furniture, and even equipment, should they not be paid EVEN MORE? And even get a tax exemption on the depreciation of those things?

The real question is: why does working from home make an employee less valuable? Why were wages predicated upon a commute to an office?

No, I wouldn't take a pay cut. I'd change jobs and take a pay rise.

How would we pay for shit 🤣 No I bloody wouldn't

I'm saving them money, I should be getting more

We're saving the company money by working from home, and not decreasing productivity. We're often working longer hours, and work-life balance can be really bad. They should pay us more.

Pay cut? How about reimbursement for me taking on internet, electricity and infrastructure costs instead of the company doing so. If anything, give me a raise for lowering your TCO.

Considering having employees work from home likely saves employers money, why is the question not 'should businesses pay their employees more to work from home?'

Australia's almost as hilarious as the US

They need to pay my damn electric bill are you kidding me?

Why the fuck would I do that?

i'm already paying for my home - why should my boss be able to charge me for working there?

The savings should come from closing massive offices, not from the people that keep the company afloat.

No? Most companies didn't pay their workers enough to begin with when they DID come in

why ?

No. Absolutely not. I take on expenses that the company usually has to pay

Odd question at a time when employers are constantly complaining that they can’t find employees. In the current environment, isn’t the more relevant question whether employers would rather pay higher wages to get workers or pay lower wages and turn away/do worse work?

No, I miss the office.

My employer saves money when I work from home. Why should I get paid less for saving them money?

I work more from home than at work. So no.

No but I'll take a raise for saving my employer rent and supply costs, thanks.

I'd work from home and also demand a raise because fuck you give me my money

No

Actually, I'm more than a little irritated that my employer doesn't compensate me for internet access & electricity (including heating and AC). Sure, I save gas $$, but it doesn't offset the additional costs. The HVAC bills alone are substantially higher than normal.

Yeah and then they could pay for my home office space, HVAC, data plan, cellphone, insurance, security and all the top of the line equipment.

Are they paying for my utilities, internet, furniture, electronics, office supplies. and rent?

Hell no.

Like they could replace me. In this hiring market? Give me a break. No, better yet, give me a raise.

THIS IS EVIL - the corporation gets the benefits of lower costs, your higher productivity and you get the shaft

Why should anyone do that? They save their company a lot of money by working from home. It's ridiculous to ask them to take a pay cut. Particularly when studies are showing that they're actually *more* productive rather than less, as feared. Perhaps because they're not pestered.

Since my employer doesn't have to pay to maintain a full sized office anymore they should be passing that savings along to us.

Absolutely fucking not. The company is saving money not paying for office expenses, they should be paying us *more*.

No. Especially if I'm providing the internet connection and the equipment. Even if they supply the equipment I still would not take a cut. That's complete BS. Can we charge them per mile to drive in?

Why should I take a pay cut? The corporations are gonna save lots of money because no more rental space costs. At minimum, wages should remain the same.

If I found an expense error that would save my company millions of dollars, should I also offer a salary cut to increase their margins further?

No. Not my fault my company locked themselves into a lease they can't get out of

no, I'd expect a raise to cover facilities costs

As a person who builds and runs offices… nobody should! The company is saving tons of money not having to have an office.

No. You weren’t paying me to be in an office; you were paying me for the work I do. That won’t change and neither should my pay

I would take worker-ownership and work at home.

why would I take a pay cut, my productivity has increased and the company is saving money by not having to pay for desk space

Seems like the reduced overhead means people should be getting raises you weirdos

No

Why? It costs companies less to WFH, by cutting down on office space, so they’re already saving.

No, I should be paid more including a stipend for my electric and internet bills. WFH isn’t a perk, especially during a global pandemic. Any company proposing this deserves the mass resignations that would follow.

Would my company take a productivity cut for paying me less for the same labor?

Does productivity go down? In fact, we know productivity is not tied to wages because.... wait for it... PRODUCTIVITY SKYROCKETED IN THE LAST 40 YEARS AND WAGES WENT NOWHERE. Assholes.

What? Pay more to work from home. That's retail space you have to use in your home that you pay for and all the office furniture that you have to pay for and keep clean and operational.

They didn’t raise pay for the length of the commute. So NO.

How about no?

This drive to squeeze as a much productivity out of workers while finding every excuse to pay them as little as possible is why people aren’t responding to crap job offers.

Since companies would save money from not renting/leasing commercial space, they can actually give people MORE MONEY to work from home.

I've WAH for 16+ years & companies always use this BS line about how they're doing us a favor. Gods forbid they acknowledge that we save them money already by working in our home offices.

Just stop this nonsense. The value of the work has not changed. There is, in fact, an argument that, by being consistently available and performing well through a variety of crises, remote workers should be compensated. Certainly, they are assuming the business's office costs.

Why should we have to, though?

the pay cut was taken all those years we were commuting.

Lets see - I'm costing the company less in office space needs, not using their power or water, why would I be taking a pay cut? This corporate leadership driven 'WFH should pay less' is idiotic.

No, I’ll come into the office and make the company pay millions in additional money for office space, electricity, insurance, heat/air, etc.

I don't even need to read this. When I interviewed for the position, was I asked about my commute? Was I compensated for the commute? Am I expected to do less if I'm working from home? No? Then, no, ffs.

No, but I would start looking for a new job that would pay better and let me work from home.

How can we make wages even shittier in America? Can we manufacture even newer ways for employers to take advantage of their workers? Let's do a story about it...

F**K NO🖕

'Would you take a pay cut to keep spreading misinformation to the public? Asking for the oligarchy.'

if the company did not pay for commute fees and time during commute, then they have no right to cut your pay for working at home. 8hrs at home are the same as 8hrs in homeoffice. go evaluate the results, not the circumstances.

Lol

No? If anything I should get a raise because I'm currently providing them with free internet, free electricity, a printer, paper, and I'm now essentially available for much longer periods of time.

Considering we're able to do the same things we can do at the office, fuck no.

The question should be: Should businesses share some of the gains from reduced office space, savings on electricity etc with their employees?

no i’ll take more actually thanks

How about a pay increase for working from home for the real estate, broadband, etc. costs the worker is covering for the business? This is just more corporate media doing the bidding for corporate America.

I'm willing to take a raise to work from an office if that helps

No

DEATH TO AMERICA!!!

Why? My company is saving money on office space and my productivity exceeds what it would be in a more social setting. Give me a raise.

No. I should be paid more. I show up to the office earlier than I ever have before a d leave much later than I used to. I get more work done and better quality. I should be getting paid more.

No why would you. They should pay you for the home office space.

I would quit.

They can pay me more because now I’m working through what was previously my commuting time. And they will, or I’ll go to a competitor. Thx

Employers should pay more since they'll save money by not having to rent an office.

Jeez man, little early in the morning to be stumping for the oligarchs no?

Why? I’m reducing traffic congestion, decreasing air pollution, contributing to lower company operational costs and still meeting my contractual obligations.

funny how often these articles are just 'how far are you willing to bend over for your employer if they do some incredibly minor thing for you'

Did the value of my labor drop because I'm working from home?

Lol no, they should pay me for providing the space in which I work

I'm already underpaid in my segment. The company could at least offer permanent work from home as a benefit.

'Can we pay you less even though you're costing us significantly less money?'

Hell no. The company will save hundreds of thousands, if not millions each year in not having to pay commercial real estate leases. In reality, they should be paying me to stay home and work. Its better for everyone.

No. Pay me more.

No, but I'd include the commute in my hours.

I definitely want to work from home full-time but I don't think it being conditional on a pay cut is justified since it's already financially benefiting employers by reducing overheads.

The should pay me more for the dumbass office space they no longer need

Unnecessary commutes are a disaster for the environment.

No. The CEOs and business owners can though, since they are the leeches anyway.

Companies are saving money by having their employees work from home.

WHY SHOULD I? Do the Liberals want me to?

It’s really gratifying that every response is treating this like the absolute horseshit it is.

Would you ABC?🖕🏾🤡🖕🏾

This is such willful idiocy by the boss. They won't pay to house you and climate control your workspace, they won't pay for your computer or internet, and the office becomes an unnecessary expense with this burden the worker bears, and they dare say the worker deserves less?

If an employer asked me to take a pay cut for working from home, I'd resign immediately and find something else for a better org that pays more.

No

I am no longer using work resources like electricity, internet, space, food so they should actually be paying me more.

Absolutely not, and no employer should be asking for that.

Absolutely. I just made the decision to do so

why would you even suggest this? it's ridiculous.

They should pay me more to keep working from home because they’re saving money on me.

STOP GIVING THEM IDEAS

Fuck no!

this is the second article I've seen like this, almost the exact same title MSM 🤝 Corporations

No.

no

Take a pay cut to be more efficient and productive? Wtf?

No

Since my business is saving money saving on rent, they should pay me more money.

No!! This shouldn’t be a question

I think not. They can reduce office footprint and send staff the savings via wage increases. Some offices in Sydney cost $20K per desk year, as far as I know.

I have to supply my own desk, chair, floor space, electricity, heating, water, sanitation, etc. How much is employer saving by not renting floor space for me? My electricity bill tripled because I am home during the day. Too many clickbait headlines damages the ABC brand.

No, but I will ask for a pay rise due to higher productivity.

Nope! They already save money on rent and utilities by not having me in an office

Only if the employer would cover the required stationary and equipment, as well as contribute to rent, energy and telecommunication bills.

Why would I take a pay cut? My minimum KPIs have increased over covid and I have complied. I am WFH on my own and risking covid as an essential worker doing home visits. What fresh corporate wet dream is this shite?

Who can afford a paycut?!

Why would you take a pay cut to save your employer paying for office space for you and others?

This is such an agenda pushing piece. What, so I pay for my place of work and take a pay cut too? For years I've been told that fancy office space is a 'perk' for great jobs, now I'm expected to pay for not having it?

Absolutely not. If they're doing the same work that they usually do then employees should be paid the same amount, no matter where they're physically based. If anything, they ought to be able to claim heating/electricity on their tax like sole traders who work from home do.

I want to start charging my working from home adults for all the extra costs associated with them being home! My energy bill, food and coffee bills for starters 🤣

I'll take a pay cut when I'm expected to spend less of my time being productive

Where is the need for a pay cut. I would have thought the reverse should be happening.

For my company, by their own measures, it has reduced costs and increased productivity, why would I accept a pay cut? Do they really want costs to increase and productivity to fall so they can pay me more?

No.

why a pay cut? Don't judge productivity by Covid, which has reduced everyone's energies and focus. If the same work gets done at home, then the same pay (I've worked at home for years and am more productive than when I was in an office)

No I'd find a new job working from home run by people looking at my work, not punitively docking me for where I'm doing it.

This is what happens when you let a multimillionaire ex-Packer, ex-Murdoch bourgie run your public broadcaster. Ita Buttrose should pay me just for looking at this pro-boss crap.

Absolutely not.

What the heck is this about? My workplace realized they were saving so much in rent they didn't have to pay they switched away from having an office space for a lot of us. Working from home *made my company money*. Suggesting I take a pay cut for that is absurd.

NO

Why should people working from home be paid less? The companies don't pay for their transport & they won't need as many offices or desks etc, all round it will be cheaper for the companies

Stop devaluing workers with pro employer/pro business bullshit.

No. I don't get paid enough as it is

So they’re saving money if they don’t need as much office space, getting the same output and then they want to reduce cost of labor..

Uhhh no, I think a pay raise is what you mean, considering workers would be providing work essentials that were previously provided by the company -- internet, office supplies, electricity, work space...

Who wants to know? We are barely keeping up with the National Minimum Wage $19.84 and there are A LOT of people in insecure employment, as highlighted in the many who are greatly suffering during this Pandemic. Perhaps, fix that before you ask if our pay needs to be cut

Why are you even asking? I provide my labour + work space + internet + phone + mail + paper + envelopes + printer + scanner + cups of tea + ... the lot. All previously available in my workspace.

😂

How would this help anyone?

Workers can more openly / easily job hunt in 💯 wfm scenarios so the competitive salary thing might balance this out. I don’t really know.

You should be offered a raise in salary to work at home - given you’re saving employers money on office space, cleaning etc

While at the same time reducing overheads of employer…

Funny question. I'll raise y'all one: should a company's minimum wage be $70k a year for every employee? A company in the US made such a change & revenue tripled so....

Can you get your funding topped up by a blind trust instead of bending to predatory capitalism and its grifternment enablers.

No. I do just as much work, if not more, working from home as fewer distractions. And I pay for electricity, water, gas, home office, printer costs, phone, etc. My employer saves money. When restrictions lift, our workplace moves to a hybrid arrangement between office & home.

Why?

Working from home sucks.

No chance. Working from home saves the company money. Should get a cut of the rent savings.

You gotta be kidding me. No way.

Last thing we need is the ABC to promote the gig economy. Employees working from home will be a saving to the employer - so in actual fact the employee should be given extra income for the electricity, gas, rates council and water, & pro rata on strata fees

sure if they want less work. You get what you pay for.

Would you? Considering all abc money is taxpayer money anyway.. maybe abc employees can take a 50% pay cut to stay home. We don’t even care if you don’t produce any content . We will pay you to spare us from you me biased drivel

No, I’d be incurring costs

Aaaand how much will the tax department pay me to do this?

No. Work get more value from me WFH. No commute time, better opportunities to set ‘focus time’ etc. a hybrid model is definitely the preferred situation though.

No, productivity should increase andbyhdbbusiness footprint is reduced. Less operational cost to the business! Maybe more risk but that depends on how the business operates in the office.

Is the ABC now engaging in polling for the Federal Government? TheMorrisonMorons would like to do to wages what they've done to the ABC's funding; slash them. Maybe you should ask whether MPs should have their wages cut for not attending Parliament? auspol

If you don’t have to travel it wouldn’t actually be a cut

give me a pay rise bitch

No! Working from home can be incredibly productive, more so than in an office given that there are fewer interruputions.

I don't know but I reckon you should take one for not remaining politically neutral.

Can I invoice the company for office space, rates and utilities?

Just another way for companies to make bigger profits. by cutting workers' wages when it isn't necessary. WFH, for those businesses capable of doing it, means they save money on overheads. This article is such neoliberal bullshit.

Makes absolutely no sense when it’s already a saving to the employer and studies showing productivity levels are the same if not higher. And that’s coming from me, a professional advocate for employers. It’s just called the future.

The LNP's being advised by Gerry Harvey and the heads of the big four banks, right?

Absolutely not. My travel was never taken into account before when negotiating my salary. This is outrageous.

No. Businesses should be providing a WFH set-up if you're working from home. If the company is based out of employees homes then they already win with reduced/ no rental costs.

A ridiculous suggestion. Employers save money through reduced office requirements.

'Engagement'

Why the hell would that even be considered, I'm absolutely working harder and longer hours from home. The savings are with the business.

LoL no

No. What’s the rent on an office building, hmmm? The cost of power, water, maintenance, etc for that space. Internet and WiFi? No. Take THAT money and give it out as bonuses. ABC employees pay attention, your bosses are telling on themselves.

No, I should get a pay rise to work from home. I’m reducing overheads for my employer.

Sure so long as they don't expect the same level of productivity.

'cut' Excuse me?

Teeny desk, terrible chair, shared space. Yeah, nah.

Using my own electricity and other utilities? Nah, should be payed more

No

What drugs were people on that this is a suggestion?!? (and yes, Capitalism, I know)

No

Why a pay cut? Saving employers a fortune in office upkeep, rent, equipment, etc. Should be a pay rise

Yeah nah. I'd ask for more money to work from home, to pay for electricity, heating, extra floor space in my home, furniture, internet, etc etc.

No. That’s not even a questions that should be asked. The company should pay more as they will have less overheads.

NO! It’s cheaper for the companies to have us working from home! Why should we loss money! Show the reason behind a pay cut?

NO pay cut,The company should pay rent and utilities and data it costs me more to work from home.

Your article shows why the answer is no, what a bullshit thing to ask workers

Most people are more productive working from home and there are probably savings to businesses (leases etc.) so if anything, people should be asking for a pay rise to keep doing it

No. But businesses should pay more. Especially when it seems ppl are expected to work longer hours and be on calls at stupid hours that wouldn’t happen if they were at work. Plus I’m guessing businesses are saving on other costs not having buildings full of ppl.

Why would I? Has the value of my labour gone down?

How about are employers willing to pay people more to come into the office rather than this bullshit framing?

No. You are saving the company plenty of $$$ by working from home. They are already benefiting. In fact, the company should be compensating workers for the increased costs (electricity, internet plans etc) in working from home.

I f'ing hate wfh. But understand it will be necessary for a long time yet.

you a cop

My employer has openly stated that they're saving a bucket of money due to our entire team working from home.

Why would you even consider it. You are paid for work produced. Where that happens is irrelevant

NO(will not cut wage to be allowed to work from home, that makes the company MORE profit... if a business wants to waste money by keeping a defunct office space.. let them !!! because the home loan won't be reduced because i now work from home !!!

No. Why should anyone be paid less for working from home? How is that logical when you're still doing the same job? Often doing more work, and using your own power etc?

Pandemic aside, if I am forced to work from home in the future I am quitting. Yeah there are benefits to it but also drawbacks - give employees the choice.

Here’s me thinking it was morally wrong that my old workplace took annual leave from me instead of sick leave when I attended my fathers funeral, now the corporate overlords are testing the waters to pay people less to… work.

No! The value of my labour isn't worth less just because I work from home

Employers in private businesses/companies are trying to implement this plan.....pay less and work more

No, why should I?

Try the other way around. If I'm at home using my own wifi, my own desk, my own climate control, and my own electricity that means I'm saving the company money by reducing their overhead by paying for it myself. Motherfuckers should be paying more for people willing to do that.

If anything I should get a pay increase. Remote employees cost the company way less.

actually I'd ask for a raise for saving my company money on office space, utilities, carpet cleaning, toilet paper, and shitty pizza lunches designed to 'boost morale.'

No, you pay for my sill, not my location.

I honestly don't care, I just want a choice

Only if I was payed more to attend work in the office. This is a s just BS.

Pay is generally based on where you live, salaries in big cities are higher because cost of living is higher. When people can work from anywhere, this equation changes. We've seen this with offshoring, but it will get a lot worse now that many more people work from home.

Lol. Not in a million years. Don’t like it at all, and for less money?

Wages in Aus for everyday workers have been paralysed for years. No way am I giving up any salary for the honour of using my own amenities to keep doing my job at home.

No. My employer gets the same amount of work from me. We already have wage stagnation and they want us to accept less?

This is the dumbest thing I’ve seen all year. And it’s a bumper field

Work is work! Women are already poorly paid and supported, so why dig a deeper grave?

no, I'll take a pay rise for saving them money

Should get a pay rise as much much more productive, and working longer hours including weekends!

yes I'll save my organisation money by cutting down on office costs, increase my expenditure on home expenses such as electricity and internet all while taking a pay cut. Where do i sign?

Typically ridiculous ABC news framing.

No it’s cheaper for them for me to work at home. Why would my wage need to be reduced

The Turdoch lackeys on the ABC board, white-anting it from within, are getting more vocal, I see.

Why should one's pay be cut? Working from home relieves the employer of significant costs and also allows the employer to choose from a greater pool of skills in selecting staff. The employees will be more productive and loyal.

Corporations really will take any opportunity they can to fuck their employees.

Should be a pay rise. Company saving on rental space lighting electricity

Not if same role and duties !

You lost me at 'pay cut.' Only a fool would whore himself like that, just to add to the profits of people with far too much profit in their pockets already.

What is the difference between work from home and work from overseas if jobs can be remotely done permanently?

Why should anyone. The employer would probably be saving money from the deal.

FatherBob So, provide your own office and equipment, pay for NBN used for work, give up part of your house, all for less pay, while saving the boss these costs? Claiming it in tax won’t get you full recompense.

They should be paying more for that.

No.

Some would by why should u?

Mmm don’t gaslight us. It’s cheaper for us to work from home. The question is whether they will give us a pay RAISE to work from home.

Why is this even a question? Working from home is just as productive. If you're making money for the company, why should they get to pay you less just because they don't get to micromanage & control you?

Why would employees take a pay cut when employers can reduce their costs of bricks&mortar, rates, utilities, etc by having employees work from home?

No. Weather home or the office, the same output is achieved. In this age of staggering wealth in equality this concept is insulting.

Would you?

No. You are not only saving the company overhead, you are paying the electric, water, and internet utilities for your workspace, making the coffee, not to mention costs incurred on cords, desk, chair, etc you may incur. If anything, they should pay you to cover these elements.

Why do I, theoretically, have to take a pay cut? With everyone working from home, the office is saving on maintenance, utilities, equipment, etc. I’m even using my own computer and paying for my wifi, while accomplishing the same job I’ve always done.

This is a joke right? Increased productivity and reduction in office costs not enough for business they want to further boost profits at our expense?

No

Why would you take a pay cut? It's more profitable for the companies, if you want to be fair restructure the tax system, employees should be able to claim more, since working from home would shift the office expenses from the company to the employees

No.

You should be paid more because you are helping them reduce overhead.

No. Counterpoint - Pay me for the commute, and subsidise my rent /real estate if you wish to extend your business onto my property.

Shouldnt need to since the company is saving money through this. Rent, space, electricity, equipment, stationery, coffee, toilet paper

Doing the same work? Not a chance.

I hope that those working from home claimed the 80 cents per day for expenses through ATO. If you're working the same hours, producing the same work, why would you take a pay cut?

No. Ridiculous. Why will your pay be cut if you are actually working 🙄 triggered

no. i would QUIT.

FatherBob Even back in the 90s, the Sydney law firm I worked for paid $1 million per floor per annum in rent. They leased 12 floors. You can bet that when the lease expires, they will be leasing far fewer floors as I believe most staff are WFH.

...........why?

and save many of those who already got jobkeeper $$ even more on their bottom line

No way, the increased costs to WFH would never justify a decreased pay. WFH I pay the heating, cooling, power, internet, phone, coffee, tea as well as the set up of my office space. Things my employer doesn't pay for now & my productivity is up so why should I take a pay cut

Pay rise not a pay cut please.

KristekBrozovic No. Working from home saves employers real estate, heating/ cooling, energy costs, consumable & capital expenses, most likely has implications on duty of care & insurances, shifts the cost work to partially refundable tax deductions, Top this off with stagnant 0% wage growth. NO.

No. Was the work done? Was it worth X when I did it? Is it still done? Then it's still worth X.

Why should people take a pay cut? Fewer overheads for companies but more profit at any excuse?

Why on earth would this be needed, my team have been far more productive working from home, pandemic aside, I think it’s been great for my business and my team.

I would need a raise to go back to the office

You should be ashamed of even spending the money to finance this article.

Am I doing less of the job?

Ableism, Blatant Ableism to the core, Shame on you for even asking.

this is a bad article and you should feel bad for promoting it but hey clickbait....any port in the storm i guess

People should have the flexibility to work where they do their best work. For some it’s at home - for others it’s in the office. We’re all different - there is no ‘one size fits all’ and that’s the ultimate key employers need to recognise.

“Would you take a pay cut so your company makes more money”

Why? It saves businesses money. Should get a raise.

This is some real neo-Liberal propaganda. Employers would be saving on office space, electricity and other overheads, so could afford to pay employees more. Working from home increases costs of electricity at home. A pay cut leaves workers worse off. No-one should agree to it.

if someone insisted I take a pay cut to work from home I would simply quit that job. absolutely not

Why is this even a question? Companies should pay more for WFH -- it's much cheaper for them. Let's not give them more excuses for ripping off their employees, hey?

Working from home should also be a government strategy to get cars off the road at peak times and to rejuvenate the local community businesses for essentials ?

Since when is your wage determined by how much is costs you to do your job? Your wage is based on your value to the business and if your productivity is the same or (as has been seen to be) better when working from home then your value is the same and your age shouldn’t change.

No, I'll work from home for the same money

It works for both parties so no pay rise or cut.

Should be paid more. Think of all the savings a company makes by having no physical office and according overheads.

Same outputs for less pay? Sounds very lucrative for the bosses. Join your union!!!

No, wage deflation is already rife. Bring on pay rises and better working conditions. I work to live, not live to work. If we haven't learnt that we are a society not an economy, during this pandemic, then we are truly doomed.

no

No. I’m paying all the costs. Electricity Internet Office setup. Why would I do this for nothing?

Shouldn’t have to. It saves the company money, wage growth is stagnant. Savings in travel costs offset by setting up home office and heating etc.

My employer has twelve staff - we all already work from home - in 4 states with one in Ireland. They have no office. No rent, no overheads - yet we are paid less. So it’s already happening

I’d take a pay rise, because my company could stop renting office space.

Only if they also increase allowances to cover additional phone, data and electricity use.

So... the business has less expenses and pays less for your work? Capitalism.

Would have been way funnier if everyone tagged their current employer. If productivity is the same - a reduction of remuneration is not warranted

Wages have been falling behind for years. People tend to work longer hours from home. Home life and relationships become strained. It can be really important for a lot of people to be able to leave work at work and go home.

This is the latest grab to rip off employees. Profits will soar once they reduce office space and that may be the source of this idea. To scam everyone back in to protect commercial real estate holdings.

Pay is dismal enough without taking a cut, but I would work from home in a heartbeat

It should be the other way around.

Nope. I'm more productive at home so I would expect a pay rise

since there are a lot of costs businesses aren't having to cover now, shouldn't it be a pay rise?

No

No as there is a cost to working from home.

Um, no. Get in the bin greedy businesses.

With overheads for employers reduced and productivity being shown to increase why not pay more? Also take into account the environmental factors and health benefits people would receive. It’s time for a cultural shift around work/life balance.

Simple: either they don’t trust their employees, or they just make up excuses to exploit their employees, which shows they don’t value their employees. But yeah no thanks.

What? This doesn’t make any sense. If anything we should be paid more to work at home. And how can they be talking about productivity levels when most school aged children are also home? If productivity is stable or going up that’s amazing and even more reason for a pay rise.

I would! It would be worth it just to continue to have the extra sleep, clean bathroom and fresh lunches.

When politicians have a 75% if not 100% pay cut for the shi* job they have done then you can ask that question I’m pretty sure the answer will be no

No. But if my employer wants me to keep working for them, they don’t get a choice whether I choose to work from home or not and they’ll have to pay me more or I’ll just go somewhere else.

No, I would not accept a pay cut, there is no change in my working output. Businesses/organisation are saving in cost $. There’s has been a forced opportunity of environmental benefits aswell.I would enjoy a hybrid opportunity to work at home and in the office for my well-being.

That’s not reflective of the conversation employers are having. The conversation companies are having with employees is whether they’re prepared to risk losing talent if they don’t let their employees continue to work from hime - nothing to do with pay cuts.

i work in building and construction work that would be a bit hard , although i would not mind staying home .🙃have a bit of a rest.

The answer is no and why when there is billions in unpaid overtime owing to office workers.

I wish you wouldn't even say these things ABC. Of course it's not okay. If anything you should be getting a payrise because they don't have to rent office space and your using your own utilities.

No!

Why should they take a pay cut if productivity is unchanged? You know there is an enormous environmental benefit to having people work from home, even part-time, and getting those cars off the roads. They should get a bonus.

In the usa employers often include travel in your remuneration.

Less overheads for the employer more distractions and expenses for the employee. No way!

Why wouldn't you take a pay cut. No car or public transport expenses. You get to claim your work from home expenses on your tax return. Your hours are more flexible when working from home. Wake up just before you start work, that's up to 3hrs a day saved, more family time

Certainly not...are you doing less work

Why get a pay cut? You are probably buying your own stationery and saving on city rents etc

No

Part of the wages calculation accounts for commuter costs to an office base and living expenses proportionate to the location. So those costs decrease for the employee if wfh. You can also claim some wfh expenses at tax time.

We should be paid more, because we are saving the business money. Join your union folks. Vote out the liberal Party always.

Hubby’s work got rid of the office so there’s no going back to the office for him. They now don’t pay gas, electric, cleaning, insurance, coffee, parking for employees etc etc. Oh and we have had to buy desk, chair, heater, fan, printer etc etc.

Did Scott Morrison take a pay cut?

It costs more to work from home electricity, data, phone use, just to name a few things.Companies should pay more so as to work from home.

Real estate and Utilities expense would move to employee. Will the employer increase the wages in proportion ...

Why would there be a pay cut?

Would you be an entrepreneur and start your own business?

I find the statistic of 40% a little unbelievable. Is that of the entire population? Or just 40% of those in work that could realistically be done from home?

And none of them can see the benefits of working in the office Close the schools forever too

Why would I take a pay cut to work from home - it actually costs more to work from home? Coffee, milk, water, gas, electricity, general wear & tear of the house normally wouldn’t get! We should get paid more - I get through more work working from home, less distractions

Would you go back to the office and expose yourself to Covid....and go back to commuting on public transport?....yeah nah

Why do you need to be paid less to work at home? You are saving your boss office rent. You are quite possibly more productive given the research out of the pandemic. If anything, you should be paid more to work at home.

If I could work from home, I'd think that it would be cheaper for my employer to not have to provide me with realestate to work from.

So laying off the cost of office space on staff, AND paying less is newest strategy to screw employees? What's next? No annual leave entitlements, super, or sick leave?

HELL NO !! 😂😂🤣
