The "tragic" details behind the death of a newborn baby 25 years ago in a toilet at a remote WA caravan park have been laid bare in a Perth court with the sentencing of the child's mother, a victim of sexual abuse, for killing him.
State prosecutor Robert Owen told the court the woman's hand and fingerprints were taken, and when they were put into a national database, they matched those taken from the toilet cubicle in 1995.WA police flew interstate to interview her and in a videorecorded interview, she admitted what she had done to the child.
But that was a lie, and later the woman revealed to detectives she was a victim of sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather. The woman's lawyer, Karen Farley SC, said the fact that the matter had come to light had "really been a relief" for her client. As a result of what happened, the woman had suffered throughout her entire life, and relied on drugs and alcohol to cope with her anxiety and panic attacks, her lawyer said.
Children's Court president Hylton Quail said the pattern of the woman's life "very much started at 13" when she was subjected to "persistent and regular sexual abuse".

This is seriously sick reporting. This 14 year old adolescent was NOT a woman, she did NOT possess the thoughts and rationale of an adult but she had been abused for many years by an ADULT. This is completely heartbreaking. Did no one see she was pregnant?

This is horrific. I am glad her sentence is suspended and she won't spend time in Gaol given the circumstances. However the decision to bring charges was right.
The sentencing is a crime by itself..a review of the case should happen and the judges should be a part of persons prosecuted by the public along with the damn step father.

I find it deeply disturbing that this woman has been convicted for the nightmare result of a crime perpetrated against her when she was a vulnerable child.
