Why this Brisbane scientist is one of the world's 100 most influential people
Professor Lidia Morawska is named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world for helping highlight the airborne spread of COVID-19.
Professor Morawska said she acknowledged that action would be ad hoc during a pandemic."But some of these ad-hoc actions, like opening the windows, solve the problem," she said."In some cases it doesn't — we need to be more sophisticated — but awareness that this is a problem, this is the key.
"Then the questions are what to do to protect ourselves or those who we are responsible for and in all kinds of environments, schools, restaurants, shopping centres, offices and so on."LIVE UPDATES: Read our blog for the latest news on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Why Sydney's COVID-19 lockdown could end a week early for fully vaccinated peopleAn ABC analysis shows NSW could reach its target of fully vaccinating 70 per cent of its population aged 16 and above as early as October 8 — something that would see its COVID-19 lockdown lifted a week ahead of schedule. Because of living with COVID at all cost? If it wasn't because it will affect us all - most would say 'let it rip in Sydney' Living in one of those ‘LGAs of Concern’ I’m starting to wonder if the world outside my 5km radius travel restriction really exists. So this is my COVID Lockdown Lament.
Why some Libs sniff an early exit for Berejiklian, but why the timing is likely hers to chooseSo concerned are some ministers they’re convinced her demise could be weeks away. Their apprehension may well be premature, but Gladys Berejiklian is viewed as being increasingly isolated from much of her ministry. No one wants to take over whilst the pandemic is still raging. I can’t see her going voluntarily. She strikes me as someone who enjoys the job for all its stresses. Also, if Perrottet is her likely successor (I don’t think as Rob Stokes would be the better choice), he would take the NSW Lineral party more to the right.
Why 80 human rights experts object to commissioner’s appointmentPublic jobs, funded by taxpayers, should not be granted by politicians but advertised and decided on merit after a fair contest between candidates. Why do Westerners only appoint their own on top high paying jobs? TRUE not one public funded position or JOB should ever be allowed to be a Political party section All board Appointments & Senior Departmental Heads should be stopped on corrupting grounds Usually it's jobs for the boys. OPINION Auspol HREOC More LNP corruption and jobs for their mates. cheryl_kernot The equivalent to branch stacking FFS geoffrey_payne I have long advocated an independent Appointments “Agency.” Maybe could be a subsection of ICAC? No appointments from any Govt of the day.
Why Australia's new defence pact with the US and Britain is so significantANALYSIS: While ditching a $90 billion deal with the French is a massive diplomatic move by Australia, the real underlying consequence of the new US-UK pact surrounds our highly conflicted relationship with China. Scomo just made the best decision Australia has made in decades. Nuclear energy next please. White Anglo power is still going on despite the end of the evil British Empire which committed so many atrocities on us and other natives for generations! And what will we do the next few hours after the first shot? Just to be prepared
