Nurses and carers ask why they cannot stay in caring roles and still move towards equal pay with male managers.

Key points:

Potential solutions include a workplace pay gap analysis, training and flexibility in managerial roles"I started working in aged care and that's when I found my passion." Ms Singh is one of the many nurses and carers who represent the industry with one of the most stubborn gender pay gaps in Australia.Australia's Gender Equality Scorecard is based on data from 40 per cent of the workforce, specifically private sector employers with more than 100 workers

An annual report card that looks at nearly half of Australia's workplaces has found across all industries that men are still taking home, on average, $25,000 more a year than women. But others question why those working on the front line — including nurses, social workers and even childcare workers — should be earning less than those in managerial positions.Women shouldn't have to stop caring to earn more: nurses

Nurses are generally not paid enuf for the amount they do. But the pay gap is bollocks as and the argument that you should put more men at the bottom and weman at the to undermines how is best for the job

I was thinking about reading this article, but then I decided I didn't care... That's three more minutes of my life to enjoy!

How’s this for gender equality?

Every single staff member from PCA to trained div one lied through their teeth to protect their wage at the suffering of the helpless . Had to move my relative to a round trip of 190 kl which means only gets few visits now . Evil workers !!! FACT . My opinion only

It’s a shame though so many aged care workers have few values & a passion for neglect . Harsh ? Not if in my shoes . Just spent 12 months regaining my health after battle in aged care with my relatives non care . Didn’t meet one staff member who cared .

Sounds like a self-interest story. The simple reality is that you signed up for a job that's value peaks and you are going to reach 'peak-carer'. Want to get paid more - then move on. Or should we rotate the rest of the employment system around your money ambitions?

I worked as an IT contractor, & got really good money, now I am the full time carer of 5 kids, seriously if you think looking after kids deserves anywhere near the same amount of money you are kidding yourself. As for nurses, they get paid across a huge range to match skills. 🙄

Obviously many care ‘customers’ don’t Have much money, so it would make sense that care worker roles are completely tax free. To incentivise and reward for a difficult job.

Encouraging women in STEM careers is great, but until we value 'women's work' we'll never achieve equality

It is supply and demand economics, there are more people who are qualified carers, if there was a shortage wages in these fields would be higher which in turn would attract others. Nothing at all to do with Gender Equality, just the laws of economics

Caring is unproductive to the bottom line, so they expect you to pretend to care while doing your chores. No time to listen to the feelings of others it requires an open system where all concerned are not under companies pressure for profits. Old people need time for everything.

The five female faces honouring the Australian nurses of LemnosFive women have been working behind the scenes to help remember the stories of the World War 1 Australian nurses. 'Their story is part of the ANZAC tradition and, as with all who served, should be remembered and honoured.' Good on them but the more I see of these celebrations, the more it starts to look like warmongering. It looks like some is trying to normalise war in our every day lives

Why we don’t see Teri Hatcher much anymoreTeri Hatcher was once hot property in tinsel town, but incessant reports of behind the scenes feuds saw her career nosedive. This is why we don’t see the actress that much anymore. Some of the food on her YouTube ch looks fantastic but she also does a lot of seafood (which I don't eat) & the ch seems popular.

Students 'might roll their eyes' but this is why your school needs a wellbeing leaderThe Productivity Commission wants a Daisy Turnbull Brown - a designated director of wellbeing - in every school. Maybe! Maybe not! What narrative will the wellbeing leader be pushing? May be we need better parenting. When both parents work & children only see them briefly this is not good. Actually once you have water, food & shelter the next thing you need is good parenting. The hardest but most rewarding job: parenting. Parenting by someone else? Not ideal. how precious we have all become

There is plenty of good economic news so why is the outlook so gloomy?Australia's economy is flirting with recession, despite record low interest rates, record levels of household debt, booming exports and huge government spending. Because all of that good economic news only benefits the wealthy and does nothing for the rest of our entire population. A population encumbered by debt incurred for survival purposes does not have the purchasing power to buy products & services in the present OR future. The agenda of the MSM, particularly the ABC. When you call a currency issuer withdrawing money from the economy (Budget Surplus) good, how do you expect to understand what the economy is, let alone for healthy is. Your Neolibaeral world view is wildly wrong. That's why you never make sense of it. You don't understand it
